What exactly is a reformed/calvinist service like? Specifically the presbyterian ones. I have been to many MANY protestant services, but never a presbyerian or reformed service. I imagine it is hymn singing, preaching, collection, etc.?

Just Curious, God Bless

It is often viewed as a "dialogue" between man and God, with God initiating every part of the conversation. Which is representative of the idea of God initiating every part of our salvation, and initiating salvation as a whole. God came to us first, not vice versa.

So the service begins with a "call to worship". A passage is read from scripture which is God commanding us to worship Him. So the worship is initiated by God telling us to worship. And for each part of the service, a passage from scripture is read commanding us to do that, and we respond by doing it. For instance, a passage is read about sin. Then we confess our sins (privately). Then a passage is read which tells of our forgiveness. Then we respond by singing about our forgiveness. That may or may not be exactly how every church does it, but it is an example of the "dialogue" concept.

Well, it kind of depends upon the preacher, but they are most definately on the quieter side.

Note: Presbyterians are known for bieng one of the most (if not the most) uptight & tradition-holding Protestant churches.

Yes. It's not that Presbyterian churches deny sola scriptura, in fact, they are some of the strongest upholders of true, sola scripturaist doctrine, it's just that (like many other Reformed churches) they have a wealth of confessions and confessions that clearly define their beliefs.

Unfortunatly, many PCUSA congregations no longer hold to orthodox doctrine. Not that there aren't orthodox congregations, however...

It's not uncommon to find Presbyterians and Reformed folks who are well studied in church history.

Are the sermons in reformed/presbyterian churches more on the quiter side like methodist, catholics, etc. or on the fiery side like baptists, charismatics, etc.

Ever heard the phrase, "The Frozen Chosen"? I remember meeting my in-laws to be for the first time and one sister-in-law used that phrase. Apparently, my theology preceeded me! :D ^_^
