• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been worrying so much lately that God is going to give me over to my sins. I worry that I don't have the Holy Spirit with me and there is no point in even trying to read the Bible because without His leading I will get nowhere! At what point in your life does He decide to give one over to their sins? If He does do this is there still hope for that person? I'm pretty sure I have asked this before but I can't remember what was said. Any help would be appreciated thanks ya'll.

I think you know deep down this is your OCD talking.;) The rule of thumb that I as well as most all theologians would tell you is that is your are concerned about the Lord "turning you over to your sins" you are not in danger of it. IMO the person whom the Lord "turns over to their sins" is someone who is so rebellious to the ways of the Lord that they are hardened to His ways and just are NOT going to turn back. Does that make sense? Someone totally the opposite of those of us who struggle with religious OCD! Let me put it this way, the Bible says in Hebrews that the Lord will never forsake us. As long as we don't forsake him, He doesn't forsake us. And because some of have OCD, let me hasten to add that just because we've had a period of "backsliding" or not following the Lord, this doesn't mean He has given us up. As long as you still have the desire to return to the Lord and repent, the door is still open. That's how I interpret the scripture anyway.

Thanks Kaykay for your reply. Its just so hard right now for me. I think I'm one of those people that no matter what God does for me I'm like one more thing God and then I'll fully believe. God has seriously sent me 3 people to talk to me and I still have doubts! I didn't with the first one and that's when I asked Jesus to come into my life, but then my OCD kicked in and I started doubting I was ever saved in the first place and it's all been downhill from there. Even though He's sent me 2 more people to talk to me I still doubt. It's not so much that I doubt God and Jesus it's that I doubt myself. I doubt my sincerty of repenting and asking Jesus into my life. I have no idea what is in my heart and don't know what God sees. I just wish God would tell me if I really got saved that day. :(

Hey there,
I have struggled with this too, especially lately on my downward spiral into the hospital.
What I have learned, is that God wanted me to seek out help.
I believe the Holy Spirit is in control and that when we have the expectations that it is supposed to be some kind of awesome, mindblowing experience every time then we let ourselves down. This is the way I was thinking. God can speak in a still quiet voice. God can lead the heart in many ways. God's Spirit can speak in whatever way he wants to speak and come to each of us in so many forms and gifts. Just thought I would mention that.

God bless...
