Hi,
What do you do to combat worrying and anxiety? I have a few scriptures memorized. Here' an example: we had to buy a replacement car as it cost too much to repair and we could not justify doing that since it's an old car and the model isn't that great. We get an increase of $. We have other things to do with that $ also. How do I not be fearful about spending this increase on repairs and such?

thanks

Hi janny ,

The key to not worrying and being overcome by anxiety is to have confidence in The Lord .

And the key to having confidence in The Lord is having a good conscience towards God .

And the key to having a good conscience towards God is believing in the Power of Christ's Resurrection , that the same Power will also lift us up out of all that means suffering and death , and allow for us to be in harmony with what The Lord has revealed is His Perfect Will for us , by The Power of His Spirit Working in us .

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. <-----> 2nd Timothy 1:17

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ . <-----> 1st Peter 3:21

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
<-----> 1st John 3:18-22

May The Lord be Pleased to Bless with His Wisdom and His Grace . In Jesus Name . Amen .

Sincerely ,

wm

Feast even more on the Word! :D

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is [your] shepherd, [you] shall not be in want.

More about Psalm 23 at this link, post #5 ;)
http://www.christianforums.com/t1740082-encouragement-in-grace.html

Matthew 6:6-8, 31-33 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him...So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Philippians 4:6-7, 19 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus...And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 11:1, 6 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see...And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.

Just rest in God's promises. You have gotten some great verses. Remember that ALL things work out for those who love the Lord. God also said to worry about nothing, to take it to the Lord in prayer. It's all about trusting in God to meet your needs. It does take practice and faith, but God will give you that faith and wisdom if you ask Him for it. You can do ALL things through Christ.

I look at worry from and odd point of view. Maybe because of my nature I tend to be more thoughtful/worrying. It is good to be without worry, but grasping peace is very hard for me to do. So what I try do is give thanks for those moments of grace and faith where worry seems gone. When worry jumps back up, I still strive to serve the Lord. It is just a handicap to some of my efforts. But it can also be an effect of my caring nature. So in that aspect it is good. Look at the root of the worry and examine it.

One little trick, it also works for spirits is to ask "Is Jesus Lord" It should quite evil spirits(according to my reading of scripture) and also remind you of Who is in control.

anxiety and worry can weaken your faith in God.
we are no longer leaning on God 100% to do things, we go on feelings and emotions, bad thoughts. sitting and worrying never helps.
if you cant help to worry, then you need to see a counslor. some people
live in constant worry and anxiety. i would suggest that you get counsling, do you live in the 'what if' thinking?
that is worry and it does not come from God. if your worry is over taking your everyday life, its time for counsling. counslors who are trained in this field know how to help you, trust on God and know that he is there for you.

Instead of being ferful and anxious over the future, we are to grow in the graces of God to greter strength with each and every trial we face. We never face these trial alone, for the Lord is with us as our supply for all things. Called to live lives of faith, we trust in God during these tests so that our faith becomes stronger and stronger for the day when we stand strong in faith before God.
We all need to learn to rest in assurance that God uses each and every trial to our good if we trust Him.

James 1:2 ¶ Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy.
3 For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.

The disciples were imprisoned and sang songs of praise in the night to God during their trial. Timothy knew who he trusted through those trial. We must, also.

2Ti 1:12 And that is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

1 Peter 1:7 These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Our worries and anxieties come from the "What if's". We are not just worried about paying a bill or getting a new car, we are worrying about the future. The thing is we dont know about the future, or the what if's.

I had to get to the place where I had to trust God. I had one particular worry and had been praying about it. I wanted to make the right decision. God told me I open doors that cannot be closed, and I close doors that cannot be opened. -And I know what is behind every door.- The last part he told me, I think it was an FYI thing.

And you know what, its true. I ended up moving because the doors just seemed to be opening that way. Well since then I have had to move two more times. But once I got here God showed me that had always been his plan. He showed me how far in the future he had made these plans. Just by other peoples testimonies. It amazed me.

It does boil down to learning to trust God. And not rely on what your earthly eyes tell you. A story that may help is the story of Moses and the Hebrews. The exodus and plight with the pharoah. It helps me to read stories of faith. To see what it is and how it works. So that I can apply it to my life.

I would just say pray. Do what you think is right. And then when you have done all that you are able to do, trust in God. Stand on the promises in the bible. Place scriptures of faith in your mind. This gives you something to replace negative thoughts. Something to fight back with.

And keep in mind, the things of this world come and go. People who have lost everything to fires have always been thankful to still be alive. Sure we may miss the things we have gathered, but what is really important is the life we live, and the lives of others.

Make the kingdom your priority and then the rest will be added unto you.

Did you know in the wilderness God provided them with food and water, shelter, protection from their enemies, their clothes didnt wear out- in fourty years! Can you imagine. And another interesting thing to me, he kept their feet from swelling. I find that fascinating. God met their needs. All of them. Read about it, you may find strength there, I did.

Most of the times our worries are unfounded
we spend all that time worrying and things usually work out
I use to sometimes die a thousand death before something did or didn't take place. I lived it over and over in my mind to try and prepare for the worst...that never came.
I learned to recognize worry at the onset......turn on some praise and worship and sing along....I will go and pray for others who have an immediate need...instead of worrying about one that hasn't yet arose.
some good worship music in this case would be songs that magnify God as our healer and our provider, take out the concordence and look up every scripture on faith and trust.....fight fire with Holy Fire...if you know what I mean.

Let faith arise and the enemies be scattered.....

One thing I would say as an encouragement is do not heap worry on top of worry. By that I mean do not worry so much that you do worry. We all have our weaknessess, yet focus not so much on the worry. Focus instead on the promises of God. Jesus promised He would die and raise up 3 days later. This came true. God keeps His word.

These verses often help me...

Matthew 6:25-34 said:
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I think the second poster Wayfaring Man, said it best: to have confidence in God means having a good conscience towards God. I felt I really was not right with God in regards to some areas, therefore I can see my faith was no doubt a shaky thing. Things are getting better now. Thanks everybody.
