  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Worried about school.

I feel like I applied for college but its a waste of time because I am not going to be able to get in. I can't afford their tuition and I am afraid I will have made too much income in 2008 combined with my husband's to even qualify for financial aid.

I'm currently unemployed but in 08 I did family and friends lawns throughout the spring, summer and fall enough to where after I calculated...it it definitely doesn't look small....when you combine it with DHs worker's compensation earnings. :(

I doubt I can qualify for student loans I don't wanna put my credit report out to the public but uhmmm it sucks :( When they look at it they will drag me to the curb and drop me on the corner.

I guess if college is not right for me I'll know.

Never mind this post. Everyone I talked to said I'll be able to go to college even if I have bad credit.

Not only is that correct, but the worse your financial situation is, the more you'll be eligible for in aid. It's your income and obligations that are considered, not your creditworthiness. They take your word that you'll repay if the terms call for that. Pell grants and much other aid is a flat-out gift.

I don't know what State you live in, but many states have community colleges or 2-year schools. A great way to get your first two years (freshman, sophmore) completed relatively inexpensive.

You'd be surprised at what you can qualify for, aid-wise. Currently, half of my tuition is paid for by pell grants.

What field are you planning on going into? That makes a difference too. There are many women's scholarships out there (that encourage women to go into particular fields) that you could look into.

And yup, I had a bankruptcy on my credit report when I initially filed for aid. The year after it cleared, my "aid" went down slightly because my credit was free and clear.

I am starting in Medical Assisting but they will switch my credits and all that over to Nursing in January if I score high enough in the TEAS test to make it in the top 30. I think I'll do good. I'm pretty decent at testing.

Thank you all for your encouragement and support. I really feel scared. I guess because I've never been to college before I'm letting myself get bugged and I already have this idea that I'm not going to be accepted by the other students. I'm so uncool there's not even a word for it yet.

Wow, you remind me of myself in the late 60's when being a hippie was cool, I was not. Actually most were not although you couldn't tell that by all the media attention they got. You're young, you're still carrying some of that old teenager/high school baggage from your past. Who are you trying to impress? As you mature and accomplish more in your life you will grow more self-confident and look back and laugh at your thoughts of the olden days of your life.

God loves you, so do we. Cool or not...

I try not to worry too much about anything. I personally believe that when I worry, I am losing faith in God. Now I do not worry about anything much.
These passages have really helped me out:

Matthew 6:25 - 34:

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Thanks. Actually I was friendless in high school but not bullied and not really ignored. I just didn't have any friends. Period. The teachers liked me. ^_^

I feel like it'd be nice to have friends in college just because I have to be in school 8 hours and then not having anyone to even talk with would be kinda lame.

Thanks. I gotta remember God! I sometimes forget Him when I think of these silly things.

I need to pray and keep faith.

I also was friendless in junior and high school, mostly because I lacked self-confidence and was a nerd but the teachers did like me or they felt sorry for me, I don't know which. I have had many aquaintences since then, but I had NO friend until I started attending a local church after I came to know Christ. Now, my friends are numerous and I've run out of fingers and toes to count them. :D

Just remember you have a friend in Jesus and you can talk with Him anytime, anyplace, anyhow. Don't need a computer, a cell phone, an IPOD, smoke signals, nada.

I just want to add something here that's unrelated, but I've had this urging to learn sign language. Didn't do to well with French, but maybe I have a chance with this. Any tips, out there???

You could alweays get a few credits under your belt at a Community College until things turn around. Then when you CAN go to college, you could transfer the credits and be a little ahead of the game.

Yeah I know how you feel. I was an almost all A student. Got a B in art because I didn't understand some kinda perspective thing. I'm horrible at art. ^_^ The next year he gave me an A in art for effort and I think it was a whole....teacher's pet thing. :p I didn't even try he just liked me. I mean I did help a lot during his drama class sooooo...mighta been playing favorites.

Anyway in kindergarten I had one friend. First grade on nobody talked to me. In second grade I was a good kid but other kids did not like me and I didn't do anything wrong. I was quiet and super friendly but always got made fun of and I had to switch schools like 2 times in second grade so you'd think a fresh start would get me acquainted with some of the new kids but nope I got dogged out all throughout second grade in TWO different schools. Anyhoo on top of that you learn not to tell your mom that people hate you because then she runs to the school and rats the other kids out and then the other kids start showing fake affection for you but when they get outside its whisper about Rhea time yea.

Then no friends in 3rd-5th grade. One girl was my faux friend in 6th grade just to 3 way me and make me humiliate myself. So from 6-8th no friends. Then in high school I wasn't bullied, I wasn't liked I wasn't ignored I was just nobody.

All those years I was considered the teacher's pet though.:o:o:o:o I didn't even WANT to be the teacher's pet. The price you pay for behaving yourself and completing your work.:sorry:

I kinda am going to a community college sorta. Idk if its considered that. It only takes 20 months to graduate in any given course. But everyone I know gets accepted and my one friend has a repossession under his belt amongst other things. I don't have a repossession I just owe some hospitals some moneys. I don't wanna go into details with that but its enough to make me look like a sorry you know what.

Oh yeah achristiantech, My hubby and I wanna learn sign language too but we are quite teh lazy. So we haven't learned. But at least in sign language you cant mispronounce something lol. French is tough. I have a french word of the day application on MySpace but i still have not figured it out lol.

As far as sign language goes if you have a lot of free time check out some sign language videos. There are free ones on the web if you do a search on google I think you can find them. They teach you usage too I think. Good luck!
