  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The tackiest is the National Fisheries Building in India.

A cross between a kid's toy fish and a blimp. It would be atrocious even in a cheap amusement park.

BTW: The Trump Tower hotel in Las Vegas made the list. It's kinda bland, but it's not in this class of ugly.

Most of those are truly atrocities. That said, I disagree with them on:
Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower
Trump Tower LV
Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science

They may not be a person's favorite, but they are iconic (Shanghai), bland (trump), or Stalinist (which is not bad necessarily) - and not in the class of the others on the list.

Eye of the beholder, obviously. I like the fish & basket buildings and quite a few of the others, the Aldar headquarters building is really cool, but not the big, blocky, unimaginative monoliths like the Metlife, Verizon and the Tour Montparnasse.

A shame 20 Fenchurch Street didn't get an honourable mention for the sheer lack of pattern recognition. It's bland and ugly and slightly concave on the side facing the sun, which is something the architect (Rafael Viñoly) likes and had done before.

He'd done it before at the Vdara Hotel and Spa in Nevada, where the suns rays were focused on the pool deck, making it very (verging on dangerously) hot. Apparently the staff referred to the effect as the Vdara Death Ray.

He probably thought he could get away with it as London isn't as sunny as Nevada, but amusingly it does have its sunny days, and on the first one there was a complaint that the new building was melting the bodywork on someone's shiny new car, and one shop had its welcome mat immolated.
A local radio news reporter felt it necessary to conduct the standard really-too-hot test and used the solar hotspots to fry eggs.

The building "won" the 2015 Carbuncle Cup (the 2010 and 2017 winners made it to the article too), and the building (now liberally coated in non-reflective film) still has nicknames like the Walkie Scorchie and the Fryscraper.

It's a little large, but it has a comic, shiny allure and the inside is pretty cool.

Oh, I see - the concavity works as a parabola solar oven, sort of, focusing the sunlight like a magnifying glass on ants. Oops. Ok, dangerous, but ugly?

Well, it was a Carbuncle Cup "winner" (Carbuncle Cup - Wikipedia) but to me it does have a certain unneccessary ugliness (sorta like it was made of jelly and is bowing outwards under it's own weight).
The honourable mention would be for the car-melting though, I'd imagine in architecture it is customary to only endanger people inside the building, not bystanders a focal length away...
