Declining population growth rates are small comfort considering that each person's 'carbon footprint' is getting larger; more co2, trash, garbage, etc. Also the need for more social services as the social order continues to break down.

Perhaps the banks are taking into consideration that population will fall when resources fail and only the rich can survive. Perhaps the UN thinks there is an endless supply of resources. What they perhaps fail to take into account is that is is the poor who know how to survive without the goodies. The poor also know how to entertain themselves. In the end nature always balances things out.

The only thing they are trying to sustain with the moon and Mars is the riches made from mining. Population be damned. The rich know it is most often the poor who die off (millions billions) in times of need or war. They don't feel threatened.

I am reminded of a poem about the Christmas truce of 1914:

I think the growth models don't predict fertility falling as income goes up but just predict based on current figures. Most predict past the lifetime of the "prophet" so they are stacked with biased intentions.

I only just saw this, hence the delayed reply. Surely this only because of the energy requirement for all the ice rinks required for the hockey.

If we reverted back to outdoor rinks the league would shrink back to manageable size.
