  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, if you mean the work I do outside the home...no, I'm not really proud...my job is more of a necessary means of income than a means of defining who I am...it doesn't really make me feel any different about myself as a person...in my personal situation I see my job as a job and not a career.

Hope this makes sense...I'm tired from..my job.

Laura

Absolutely what I would say, too! However, once I'm done with nursing school and finally doing what I want and having pride in my job, then I will consider it a career. I will also be in a better position to have more flexible hours/days off and more time at home with my girls. Even so, I'm not sure I would consider it being proud that I work. I don't look at it that way.

We just got dumped with a foot or more of snow and it's not done yet. All schools (including colleges) and many major businesses are closed because the roads are dangerous! Of course, my little nothing of an office has decided it's not bad enough out to close. Nevermind the fact that it's located way out and most of us commute a long distance, or that the service we provide is printing and mailing JUNK MAIL, not a top priority to the community at large. This is the 2nd time they've done this. All upper management decides whether or not to close during inclement weather and then they all work from home while expecting the peons to trudge in during dangerous conditions. Nice. I really do hate that place.
I stayed home. It would have taken me probably 2 hours to even get into work this morning (after shoveling out) at the very least. I'll be required to take a vacation day for it while those who have log in access from home can sign in and screw around all day while getting paid!!

when i used to work at the office the president would buy us all starbucks when we came in when the weather was like that... i'm sorry you don't have the same type of boss (and he'd always be there)... :( it's scary to be out on the road in weather like this (i had to go to the doctor yesterday and was scared to death to drive in the ice/snow)

It's just not worth risking an accident or an injury. I just wish my employers saw it that way! I don't have a lot of respect for management with higher expectations for their employees when they're unwilling to take the same risks.

Proud maybe isn't the right work, but I am happy that I am able to do a good job. I also teach my daughter good work ethics. She comes to work with me sometimes.

I am also happy that I am able to provide for my daughters needs without outside help.

My daughter doesn't lack anything because I work. She still learns about God, we pray in the mornings, we pray at night. She really is only away from me about an hour a day that she isn't at school. So, it isn't like I desert her.

I just saw this thread!

I'm not entirely sure how to describe my situation. I work 2 days/wk, but I'm hoping to amp that up to 3-4 days soon. Up until now, our 1yo has been looked after by me or hubby (or my mum when I had surgery). He's just started childcare, though, and so far he seems to like it. It can't be fun stuck with a parent who has very little energy - and both hubby and I often fit that description, sadly! Hubby is going to TAFE (technical college?) fulltime this semester.
Question - are you proud of the fact that you work?
In a sense, yes. I like being able to provide for my family. I like knowing that I have a skillset in place that means I'm unlikely to be unable to find work (even if it's less than I'd like to get paid - I have fallback options). If we're talking the whole 'sin of pride' thing... well yes, I think I am. But that's something I fight :)

I often feel sorry for Taylor because I stay so sick. I know she gets so tired of hearing not right now Taylor, I really don't feel good. She has said to me before I really wish you would feel good again.

This is how I feel also. I work for the income, not for any real personal satisfaction. But that is only for right now. Once my husband retires from the Marine Corps and we stay in one place for more than three years, I have plans for a career that I have dreamed of.

The dreams of doing that get me through the mundane job of accounting and budgeting and planning travel for my boss right now :)

I like planning travel. Have you heard of memolink.com.?

You get points for planning travel that you can get gift certificates or cash. At my last job I was getting $250 every 4-6 weeks.

Most of my week has been rather boring; at work anyway. I have very little work to do these days. My oldest daughter had to come home from school early both Wednesday and Thursday because she wasn't feeling well. Fortunately this morning she was not running a fever any longer. With her surgery and lots of doctor's appointments last month I've already taken a lot of vacation time and it's making me nervous especially since we've had a number of lay offs this week  !!

It was a horrible week. I am over worked and I don't know what I am doing and I can't get the help I need to fix it.

So now I am scared I am going to lose my job. Everything is complete upside down and not filed where it should be because I don't have time to do anything because I get stopped constantly for different things.

The presidents assistant came in looking for something and realized just how unorganized my files are and went balistic.

So, today I am having the beginning of a nervous breakdown worried I am losing my job. I tripped down the stairs had to be brought to an occupational therapy place and am office on medical leave until Wednesday.

Thank you.

I just need a new job. My job isn't a good one. We are in a horrible finanical position and can't pay our bills most of the time. I just need to get some place more stable.

I am just so tired of trying to find the right job.

bump....

how is everyone doing with work? I am having the Sunday night "dreads" once again.

Mondays are very hectic at work, my daughter is still kind of sick, hope she is well enough for daycare tomorrow. I can't miss much work because I need all my paid-time off for my sisters wedding in May. But my DD comes before work, so if she needs me, my employer will just have to deal with it.

How is work going? Are you feeling like your things are a bit more organized?

I so enjoy the actual work I do, but I just have way too much of it. They employed another lady to help me out (she also works from home) but its not working out very well. She has 3 kids, a 3yr old and twins who are 7 months. She is hardly getting any work done. Its putting pressure on me because I am supposed to be her supervisor. I have spoken to my boss about it, and he says just see how she manages next month and if she is still struggling we can try shuffle things around so that she is doing another job and somebody else can help me. Don't know if that will work though because if she's not getting my work done (and I've only given her really really easy stuff) then she won't get anybody else's work done

I'm actually praying she just resigns...
