• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know that I have a reputation for writing long posts, but I make a conscious effort to be concise. If it is a long post that is because of a lot of content.

Others that I am reading lately...well. I find them to be extremely wordy.

Just a friendly reminder that it is a good idea in a medium like this to say what you are trying to say in as few words as possible.

I could be wrong about wordy posts, though.

Sooo...other members aren't concise and their 'wordy' posts aren't full of content? Pretty sure every wordy post I've ever made has been filled from beginning to end with content, and that goes for just about everyone else on here who takes the time to write out a wordy post in contribution to a particular thread/topic.

Anyway, I'm with Jupiter on this; wordy posts are perfectly fine and I don't mind reading them at all, but it's extremely irritating (and rather difficult and drag to read) when they don't paragraph their post.

I did not say that.

I said that if a post that I make is long that that is due to the amount of content--that I make a conscious effort to be concise.

I get lost in some people's posts (not most people, not everybody; some people) and give up reading them. Therefore, I can't comment on how much content is there.

I simply wanted to point out that they might be missing opportunities to convey important points and that that can be corrected by being more concise.

I think of the fight scene in Robin Hood on the river: "Read FASTER!"

Seriously, I try to enjoy what people share. I sit at a distance from the screen so sometimes I have to move in on little fonts in other colors. lol. But I enjoy the expressive variety of colors and fonts too. Thoughts and emotions are both great. I think it is wonderful to see both sides.

The occasional break every few lines does help with my eyes. Other than that, creativity is the rule.

Honestly all I got from this was...

"I like my own long wordy posts. Other peoples... not so much."

I don't mind the long posts. Most times they can be a really good read. But when its clear that someone is just trying hard to show how smart they are or attack someone else for not being like them, Or just ranting about some inane thing no one really cares about, etc... no thanks.

also whoever mentioned paragraphs: Yes. I never read long wordy posts that are just one big wall of text.

how about we let people write as long a post as they want to...

Where did anybody say, "We should not let people write as long a post as they want to."?

Again, where did anybody say this?

you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

Where did anybody say, "You have to read a post even if you do not want to?"

Again, where did anybody say this?

Where did anybody say that anybody should not be creative?

The issue is wordy posts. Wordy is defined as using more words than are needed to convey something.

Why was this issue brought up? Because people might be missing valuable opportunities to convey important points.

I think you've used about 92 words too many here :p

Long posts have never been the issue. Wordy posts are the issue. That is, by definition, when more words are used than are needed to convey something.

I am sure that due to wordy writing half of what I have tried to convey at Christian Forums was never digested by anybody.

This is so that other people can avoid making the same mistake.
