This is a ma'am:

It has nothing to do with age. It is a contraction of "madam", which is an honorific. And as with "sir" I only use it to show respect to someone. If someone doesn't know your name, how would you prefer to be addressed? "Hey lady" just doesn't seem chivalrous to me.

Haha, "Hey you" works just fine for me. LOL Seriously... it does.
Or miss. I don't mind being called miss.
But when I get called ma'am it makes me feel like I'm 50+.

I'm bugged when people try to put two words together to make a new word: "guesstimate", "infotainment", "blogosphere" and "chillax" all make me want to go postal.

So...this is kind of random. I was checking Facebook, and I noticed that someone chose to use the word "chillaxin". That word is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It makes me want to punch people, lol.

I am going to be a jerk and list all the ones that come to mind (including saying a few things about the reasoning why), but don't make a big thing of it because I totally use other words or phrases that annoy the snot of out of others. So, it's all


über - When people use this word, it tends to make them look really... silly, let's just say. I blame Nietzsche, but even he was German so it made sense that he used it. Seriously. If you're going to use it, you'd be wise to just say the sentence entirely in German. That will really impress people. I'm not one of those people who thinks that when someone else is speaking in a foreign language that means they're talking about me anyway so get your German-on.

organic/ly - Used outside of a "nature's table" context, it's become one of "those" buzzwords used in corporate America to make oneself seem as though they are really being thoughtful about what they're saying. The misuse of these terms makes one seem pretentious and makes me want to listen to Kathy Griffin instead.

proactive - Another corporate America buzzword. As soon as someone mentions this word, my mind immediately shuts down. I no longer take the person seriously. I almost feel the same way about these words as others tend to view curse words. You can find a better way of expressing yourself, right? Then, do it. Or at least try.

random - This word has literally lost all of its meaning, as nothing is no longer random anymore. People are not as random as they once thought they were due to the internet and having the ability to say whatever, whenever, however a thought pops into their heads. Twitter has pretty much cemented that randomness is no longer in existence and never will be ever again. I are lioncats. See? Random, right? No. Just stupid.

not! - The word in and of itself does not annoy me, but used in the early 90's way, it really makes me give the person who said it stank eye or as mentioned above, I don't take that person seriously. "That was soo mean.... Not!" Ugh. I want to hit my head against a Kathy Griffin.

it's all-good/all to the good - I catch myself saying this and I kind of want to punch myself in the face just a little bit when I do notice. If MC Hammer made a song about it, you know it's wrong. There is no excuse.

teh lulz - I know that some people are incredibly annoyed by internet-speak, so I had to include this one. Even though I don't hate it, I know that some people do and I understand that. It does look kinda dumb, but I don't mind it... usually.


Speaking of internet-speak, I've mentioned it before but will do so again. When people use shortened terms to refer to people or statements that could take them an additional 2 seconds to type out: SO, DD, DH, DS, DF, IIRC, etc. Seriously. Short of ODB or OPP, I could care less. Actually, even those I'm not too sure I care about. On the plus-side, it's a really good way to turn me off. So, if someone doesn't want me reading their posts, please use them.

I'm so happy that a few of you feel the same way I do about "chillax" though. I kind of want to give you guys a hug, haha. Now I just have to convince the rest of the world that the use of that word is completely unacceptable.

I hate that. Also, any English word that breaks rules. For example the word "weird." I hate that word because I always spelled it "wierd" growing up.

Eh, I don't see much difference between the use of that word and other words from other languages (I.e.-- "hola", "amigo"), but it does make one sound extra geeky. Haha.

Unfortunately, when writing in Spanish, it seems that every other word requires one.
