Hubby and I are considering adoption!! I am soo excited, this is something I've felt called to do nearly all my life!! Granted it will be a while before we're ready, we live in a two bedroom-one bathroom trailer, but we're talking. lol Sorry, I'm just soo excited!! Oops! I said that already.

Anyway, I will gladly accept any advice anyone wants to offer!! I want to adopt an older child, but hubby wants a baby or toddler. I'm trying to explain that the older children are not "all messed up" so he can make a more informed decision. If he still wants to adopt a baby-toddler that's okay, as long as it's not because of a wrong idea.

If you are thinking of adopting especially an older child you really need to consider what you are getting yourself into. When many people adopt they go into with the attitude that love is all a child needs and that is a very blind way of thinking so to speak. Many older children who are adopted from foster care suffer from RAD which is Reactive Attachment Disoder where they basically have no emotions or feelings like a normal attached person would. This sometimes leads to psychopathic behavior or the child not being able to function in a family setting and being placed in a residential treatment facility where they can get the round the clock care they need. I'm not trying to scare you out of adoption but coming from a family of 10 adopted kids you need the honest truth of what you could be getting into.
