[FONT= "Book Antiqua"]I think it was the LCC, perhaps? (or is there a CLC?) A friend told me they thought we didn't stop fellowship with the LCMS 'soon' enough. But was that in the 90's?
Sorry to try and answer for you Jim...please correct me if I'm wrong.
Looks like I had my L's & C's (and missing some A's & M's) all in the wrong placeWELS broke fellowship with LCSM in 1962, because LCMS was in fellowship discussion at the time with ALC (eventually LCMS-ALC fellowship established in 1969-1981). ELS broke fellowship with LCMS in 1955.

[FONT= "Book Antiqua"]The ELS broke fellowship with LCMS AFTER WELS did, not before. I also believe that it marked the dissolution of the Synodical Conference. The LCMS and Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches merged in '71.
I think you might want to check your history books a little closer. ELS broke fellowship with LCMS and Synodical Conference first, while retaining fellowship with WELS.
Also, the ELC is not the same as ELS.

According to Moving Frontiers, page 412, ELS broke fellowship with LCMS in 1955, and WELS broke fellowship with LCMS in 1961. That's as I personally remember too.

...and what is the ELC?
[FONT= "Book Antiqua"]If memory serves, the ELS broke fellowship in '55, but did not leave the Synodical Conference becasue of their fellowship with Wisconsin who was still in fellowship with LCMS until '61. My recollection is that although ELS broke fellowship first, the WELS actually left the Synodical Conference before the ELS... chronologically, anyway.
