Okay so I have been watching alot lately because I heard something that really bummed me out.

Alot of Waitresses HATE to work on Sundays because they say that the Christians patrons are the WORST !!!!!

They are demanding, rude and do not tip well................

When I heard this a few weeks ago I started watching........my family goes OUT to eat almost EVERY Sunday and where I live every restaraunt is PACKED out on Sundays with people who obviously just left church.

Needless to say - the waitress that told us this was pretty well on the mark.

The sad part is that she said - rude people come in EVERYDAY but no one thinks much about it - but on SUNDAY they are not just rude people.......they are RUDE CHRISTIANS

This really opened my eyes so I have been being alot more conciencious about my families behaviour. Which I can say my dad ALMOST ALWAYS invites our waitress to his church and my family tips pretty good (although we have collectively decided to bump that up as well........

Anyways to make a long story short if you go out to eat on Sundays I challenge you to start being more aware and to make other people aware of how waitresses feel about Christians as a whole. Maybe we can change things a bit...................

Interesting post.

Then there are some people I know who make it a mission to convert every waitress they come across. Leaving them tracts that look like $100 bills. I'm sure they really appreciate the let down they feel when they first see those and then realize they are fake.

Mike & I always witness to our waitress when we eat out..

His mother supported her family working 2 jobs.. one of them waitressing - relying on her tips to keep the kids fed - so he has a special place in his heart for them.. it is hard demanding work..

There is a Denny's in a city we sometimes go to to minister with our church. It is late when we're done.. and I go directly from work - so we usually end up eating a Denny's on the way home..

Now you have to realize that my hubby has a strange sense of humor sometimes.. One night we came in with a party of 23 people.. at 11 PM.. they hurried & set up the tables for us..

When she asked Mike what he wanted to drink.. He said "diet coffee".. She said "Decaf".. He said no.. Diet Coffee.. She said We don't have that.. I want coffee without sugar.. she laughed and brought the order.. we kept talking to her when she brought the meals & checked on how things were going.. Found out she was new.. we tipped her well.. and we were happy & so was she..

The next month when we went back again, the same girl came to our table.. eager to wait on our group again.. with the big smile on her face.. she said what would you like to drink?? And she looked at Mike & said "We don't have ANYTHING YOU want!! He laughed & so did she..

I've heard that sometimes Christians have tipped waitresses by leaving a track.. which is fine.. as long as you include some "green" with it as well..

At all times, we need to let people see Jesus in us.. no matter where we are.. a restaurant.. grocery shopping.. work.. everywhere..

I agree with Glenda feel free to leave the tract - but leave some green in it ;)

Nearing the end of a year and half waiting tables at Perkins (As a 48 year old MBA)was what I was doing when I left to come here.

At that time the hourly salary was $2.83. Plus we had to pay tax on 10% of all our sales. Whether we made that much or not.

The best way to witness to your waitress is to be a decent human being.

If you are one who is obniously picky about your food, read the ScrewTape Letters by CS Lewis and change your ways.

Guess who my favorite customers were? The tattooed, pierced, leather wearing tough guys. They were friendly, easy to please and left reasonable tips. We talked a lot about God. Some were PK's.

Many waitress are reaping a life formed by bad decisions which stem from a family with the inability to properly express love. If you truly care, they will respond openly. If you're faking it - they might spit in your soup. (Just kidding!)

The servers had two favorite customers. A retired judge who only ate corned beef and eggs and always left a $10 tip and a nun who came in at 4pm for supper and always left a $5 tip. After 3 years I still remember...

Good post sister !! I have been blessed by God in so many ways - raised my children pretty much (humanly on my own) not without God by my side thats for sure. I have been SO BLESSED to have been able to give them a good life. I have 3 of the most wonderful boys ever and this is not just MOM talk. I get constant compliments on their manners and what fine young men they are.

I have had times where I had to work multiple jobs just to support them (none as a waitress) but as a Mom and customer I have always tried to be sensitive to the statements you made of how most of them ended up working in that job to start with and unfortunately most of the time I think your assessment is pretty accurate.

What a humbling job it is to constantly WAIT on others hand and foot......but then so many people (Christians alike) make them feel sub-human. I just was hoping to raise the awareness a little of things that alot of might be taking for granted.

Thank you soooooo much for you heartfelt input......

I think being a waiter/waitress should be a requirement for all people. At least for a few months. Especially for Christians. What better way to learn what it means to be a servant than by serving people food.

I've noticed the problem with Christian restaurant patrons before too. I hate going out to eat with my family. In the first place, they're all cheap... so they order cheaper things on the menu and don't tend to take into account the tip as a part of the price. Then they run the tail off the poor wait staff - more this, some of that, this isn't right, take it back, bring me another one. They're usually nice about it, at least. But sometimes they get snotty. And all of that is fine, IMO, as long as you compensate the waiter/waitress for their trouble by leaving a fat tip, which they never do.

Whenever I go out to eat with them, I triple tip to try to make up for it.

I can assure you that taking the job wasn't my idea. God asked me to and He gave me enough faith to believe it would work out - even though financially on paper there was no way.

I thought it was to teach me humality. And that it did, every person I every person I ever mistreated, talked bad about, or even thought bad about came in and I had to serve them breakfast. (Talk about bad tips!)

But God used that lowly job to prepare me and elevate me. EVERYONE said that God would not have me 'waste' my education and experience to wait tables. Had I listened to them (and I really wanted to) I would not be where I am now, doing what I am doing.

So you just never know who God has placed where - or why.

The restaurant was near a hospital. Sometimes I would just drop to me knees and pray for a custormer right there in the middle of the restaurant. I liked when they came back and told me they were healed. Some started attending my church.

Yes of course. But I rarely do it considering how much of my life is spent in public places. The more low-key method of sliding a chair over and taking their hands in mine is my preference.

Something that helps give me courage is to realize that I may be the only person to ever bring this person before the throne of God.

I hated working Sundays for that very reason. It was one of the reasons that I wouldn't go to church. I didn't want to be like my customers that came in. But one did soften me up a little bit. She'd come in every Sunday after church. She was this little old lady. And she would ask me how my day was going. I am the kind of person that is going to tell you what's on my mind. So I told her. And I was having the worst day. I didn't know this lady was a Christian. But I sure did tell her what I thought about the Christians. I went off. I left all abandon and professionalism and I told her what I thought. (I was having a really bad day). And this old lady just listened. And then when I was done, she came closer and I saw that she was crying. And she said "young lady, I am so sorry for the way you have been treated. I'm a Christian too, and I can see how we would be the worst. We go to church and hear about Jesus and then come here and are mean and rude and obnoxious because we don't like something we heard and I am so sorry. I hope you won't hold it against us forever, but most of all, I hope you won't hold it against God."

That caught me off guard. I didn't go off on that old lady again after that. And I was nicer to her. And when those annoying people with the tracts would come in and try to evangelize me, I started taking the tracts.

Bless you for sharing sister - the waitress I talked to said s very similar thing.......her words were this:

"If that is how Christians act then I don't want any part of their religion."

Some Sunday diners give awful witnesses for Jesus without even realizing.

Dear God I pray that you would open their eyes to their own behaviour.
