There is probably a wider sociological answer, yet the most basic answer to me is that men and women have forgotten God and instead of relying on the Christian tradition to satisfy their desire for spirituality and meaning they want to rely on mainstream or 'cool' forms of spirituality.

Personally, I don't take anyone's definition for 'Christian' as an indicator for numbers. It does my heart good to see people leaving the church/religion because "They went out from us because they were not of us." The polarity is indicative.

Either way, it is in God's plan for things to go as they do. It doesn't bother me. Polarity is often a very good thing —I don't care much for pretenders.

It's called Bookends in stories. Christianity started out with a literal pagan majority, and under persecution. So for the last act of the story we get to repeat it but a little more metaphorical this time around, to give things a sense of symmetry and conflict to keep things interesting before things wrap up.

I think if you intentionally harm another being, then that plants a seed of Karma. That seed will grow and ripen, and the fruit will come when the right conditions are present.

I think many contemporary Christians do not take witchcraft seriously. Combine that with the fact that women are generally viewed as harmless in today's society and the result is a decreasing social stigma for women calling themselves witches. Because witches and women with powers have a cultural association with the strong woman archetype, men especially are discouraged for speaking against a woman for being a witch as they might be labeled sexist or oppressive.

Well, according to my path anyway... or at least 'unskilful', in that it will lead to suffering (according to my belief).
They know my belief, but beyond that it is up to them.
Buddhists tend not to proselytise very much.

I would suggest that a part of the problem in the West is the media we consume, be it TV, computer games, etc. A lot of it has magical themes and is depicted as harmless. This would lead some people down that path.

As a Buddhist it only means they will be reincarnated even lower on the wheel of life.
As a Christian because they do not believe in Jesus they are already condemned.

I am seeing more and more people claiming to be either suffering as a result of real-life witches or at least people who claim to be witches and cast spells and mess with the occult in a dangerous way. These are adults, not kids playing with Ouiji boards, another thing I avoid. I don't think it is a good sign for this to be happening, as it often suggests people are messing around with dark forces.

There is likely no one-size-fits-all explanation.

I think that there are a lot of reasons why, in some parts of the world, why the churches are hemorrhaging. It is becoming less culturally expectant for people in traditionally Christian societies to be religious, and so less people are attending church, and many people are exploring other religions, or becoming non-religious.
