• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't currently have a church; I'm hoping that changes next week, but I had something come up today that makes me hesitant to bring it up to a community who doesn't even know me yet. Not the first impression I want to make. I wasn't raised in the church. I didn't seek a relationship with God until I was in my late 20s. I've tried to read the Bible but find it very difficult to understand, not just the literal translation from a dead language to English which is structured completely different, but also things like deciphering what is a parable and what is literal, or what is contextually applicable to a specific time or event and what is a blanket statement that is timeless. I am smart, but I am not educated. I usually end up looking up specific scriptures that apply to questions that plague me, then I listen to someone much smarter than me break it down and explain it on YouTube. I came across the topic of Psychics and my heart stopped. When I was 18 I lost someone close to me very violently and very suddenly. She was reading a book called "Words I Wish I Wrote" by Robert Fulgram. In and of itself the book is harmless but it caused an unhealthy obsession with philosophy and theology. During this time in my life I moved from one philosophy or theology, dissected it, and moved on to the next. I eventually came to Witchcraft and Astrology. It's not like I gathered some witches and had a seance but I fully submerged in it from an academic point of view. I believe this may have left me vulnerable. One night I had a dream of an astronaut floating in space, his visor was shattered, and his flesh was completely frozen. When I touched him he broke apart into tiny pieces. I woke up immediately and I don't know why but I knew there was going to be a shuttle explosion. I told my girlfriend at the time and asked if there was a shuttle going up anytime soon and she told me she didn't think so. I live next to where the shuttle launches. That night we found out there was a shuttle going up it was the night of the Spaceship Columbia disaster. Fast forward I had another dream one night that I came home and my front door was wide open. I knew my house was broken into and I knew the person was still in the house. I went to search the house but woke up in absolute fear. I again told my girlfriend I don't know how I know what this means, but I am going to get robbed at gunpoint and if I don't give the man the money he will kill me. Within the week this happened at the hotel I worked at. This never happened again after these 2 events but 1 night I was working in this hotel 3rd shift and a couple came in. It was down pouring outside and they didn't have enough money for a room. We were relatively empty and the woman was with child, so I asked what they could afford to still leave them with money for food for the night and agreed to take that as payment versus sending them back out into the storm. The woman thanked me and told me she was a psychic and said she would read me for free for being so kind. I didn't believe in any of this at all but it was 3rd shift and I was bored so I conceded to some entertainment. The woman looked at me for only a couple seconds and gasped. She told me I had a hex put on me and the only way she could remove it is if I audibly said the name of the witch who placed it on me. I guessed a few ex girlfriends of mine and she said that those were not the name. At that point I said I don't know then, sorry have a good night. She didn't seem like she wanted to leave nor did she seem like she wanted to stay. She thanked me for the room again and went to her room with her husband. They didn't check out before I left in the morning and I never saw them again, but some time later I found out a girl who asked me out that I turned down because I was dating someone else actually practiced witchcraft as well as her whole family. I saw this video today and my heart stopped. Please tell me this is a biblical parable and not a literal story. I always took this stuff as a parlor trick but all of a sudden I'm afraid that if this is real then studying it, even though it was academically, may have made me susceptible to it. Is this forgivable? Can this be undone? I am so terrified that I was able to understand these seemingly loosely related dreams and translate them into a perfect premonition. This whole video has got me terrified but I have no one I can ask about this.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, you can turn everything around. First, I will note that God gives gifts without repentance. When you do not submit yourself to God, those gifts can still be active but usually the results are quite bad; bringing fear, not love, torment and not hope. So you did open the door to the devil but it is nothing that you cannot be free from. If you still feel oppressed, cursed or any dark cloud over you, you need both teaching and possibly some deliverance.
For me, my start was gaining an understanding of what I had been doing. Lester Sumrall's "Demons the Answer Book" was helpful in getting my eyes opened. Now it seems quite simplistic to me, as I have read other books on spiritual warfare and deliverance.

Here is an internet library where you can get it for free. (Might require you to register) but it is truly free. Demons : the answer book : Sumrall, Lester Frank, 1913-1996 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

The spiritual world consists of the dark side, and the God side. You likely have seen pieces of both. The goal is to cut off the dark side and fully activate the God side. To cut off the dark side you need knowledge of the word like the armor of God, and other biblical underpinnings. You can also try self-deliverance or if that is unsuccessful or seems too hard then try some deliverance with a person who has some experience with it. Often too if you get around a church where there is some power, the anointing from God will melt much, if not all of that away.

To fully activate the God part, you need to be is to fully submitted to Jesus and His word. From that confession and humillity, God will not only forgive you but he will empower you to help you become the person that you were destined to be. Whatever fears you might have from your past can be completely erased. Whatever sins you have done are also completely forgiven if you ask. Again, humility is key. Repent and ask God to make your heart right, that your eyes and ears can hear him clearly and that you want to shut the door on anything that hinders your walk with him.

From your new perspective, God can use whatever talents and abilities that you have as you submit to Him. So really it is a bright and hopeful future for you. Some churches may not be very experienced in the power and love of God. I would suggest you find one that is. Why? because Paul suggests this. That both a demonstration of power and wisdom can flow to and through you.

1 Corinthians 2:3-7 (NASB)
3 I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling,
4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;
7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

God's blessings to you.

I have my doubts about the psychic stuff, as many things are just coincidences. But I did want to respond to this:

YouTube is such a mixed bag -- a little bit of good stuff here and there, and a whole lot of nonsense. It troubles me to think of people relying on YouTube for their Bible commentary. I'd much rather see you learn to interpret the Bible in the context of a well-informed, well-grounded church. The Catholic Church is one such church. They've been around for many centuries. Catholic scholars have studied and discussed the Scriptures for all that time, and they've created both an oral interpretive tradition and a large written collection of books. I think you would be in very good hands if you went to the Catholic parish church that you've mentioned in your other posts and listened to the priest there interpret the Bible in his sermons over the course of the full three-year lectionary cycle.

(The Catholic Church isn't the only good place to learn about the Bible. Most of the other historic denominations -- Lutheran, Anglican, Presbyterian, and so forth -- can also give you a good grounding in Scripture. But you've mentioned having good connections with Catholics in the past, so it seems an obvious place to start.)

If you want to study on your own, I recommend books -- printed, published books -- rather than YouTube. Look for books written by authors from one of the historic denominations and published by one of the major publishing houses (avoiding self-published things on Amazon).

The Bible is a book meant to be read by the church in community, and there have been many scholars, past and present, who can help us understand as we read.

Richard T gave you some good advice. Also, Dr Derek Prince has numerous episodes about witchaft on YT

When dreams are from the Lord, they have a purpose. Sometimes they're warning us just like in Scripture such as Matt 2. We can always pray and asks Him for direction and for His grace and mercy.

Is it forgivable? According to several Scriptures including Mark 3 "28 All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men... 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness..."

Sometimes we involve ourselves in things such as readings and Ouija boards which means we've looked to demonic spirits to give us hidden knowledge and dont realize the impact til later. In prayer you could address the reading and now for being fearful and asks for His forgiveness and peace. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9 "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," II Pet 1:2

I feel a bit better about this, this morning. I was kind of elevated last night when I wrote this. I did pray on this last night. I don't know that I got an answer, but I'm at least in better headspace this morning. I haven't thought about this in years. It took 1 video to make it all come flooding back. Maybe a lot of it is just shame from that part of my past idk. Again I watch YouTube because I'm trying to understand. PloverWing, I do have a question somewhat related to what you said. You said the liturgy cycle is 3 years? Are all parishes on the same cycle at the same time? I have to be gone 1 Sunday a month and while I won't be able to attend mass locally, I could attend mass as a guest at another parish where I will be located. I'm just wondering if all Parishes are on the same cycle?

There is a way to the light through the darkness. His Holy Spirit, who dwells in the believer is our Comforter promised to us by Jesus Christ of Nazareth, is that light. Have you received His Holy Spirit? Repent from all things that cause you fear and doubt. Take up the full Armour of God, His Holy Spirit, and do not "quench "His work that has been started in you by flesh driven deceptions. The occult has no power over His Flock therefore, cease from such things.
Be blessed.

Yes, all Catholic parishes in the US should be at the same point in the 3-year lectionary cycle at the same time. If you live in Denver and you travel to Boston for the weekend, you'll hear the same readings in Boston that you would have heard in your home church in Denver.

Here's a little more information on the Catholic lectionary used in the US:

(My church, and many other mainline Protestant churches, follow the Revised Common Lectionary, which is very similar to the Catholic lectionary but with a few differences. If you're interested, here's one good discussion of the RCL: https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/faq/ . There's enough similarity that if you went to an Episcopal or Lutheran church in Boston instead of a Catholic church, there's a good chance you'd hear the same readings.)

In case you're trying to decipher the calendar and the charts of readings, we are currently in Ordinary Time (the season after Pentecost), year C.
