Wireless network OS compatibility

I'm wondering....can two computers be wirelessly networked if one runs a Linux OS and the other runs a Microsoft Windows XP Professional OS?

Well...in order to correct a morality situation I might have to switch to some free distribution of Linux. But the host of the network runs Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

If you simply want to connect to the network (and say, get out to the internet) you'll have no problem, heck most routers run Linux. But if you want to do other things like swapping files around between computers on the network, then you'll have to do a bit of playing around; you can certainly do it, but you'll need some extra programs to be running.

However, take caution in choosing wireless cards, as there are many wireless cards that are not supported or only partially supported in linux.

We alredy have the network set up. Both computers are running Windows XP Professional. But I might have to switch mine to a Linux distribution.
