  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 I wasn't sure where to post this question.

This wireless stuff is making me :swoon:, so I am hoping that someone may be able to answer my question.

My neighbor and I share Comcast Cable and would like to share the wireless. His has been hooked up for a while now. Until recently I didn't realize I had to get an adapter. I have a Mac and went to the ends of the earth to find one that is compatible.

I will get it today. Now my ?: My friend tried to connect at my house via her labtop. It has a wireless connection. She wasn't able to connect. She can connect in school's, libraries etc.

Does that mean that A.) My friend's adapter is too weak (neighbor and I live in seperate houses..he is aprox. 200ft from my house); OR B.) My neighbor unknowingly has a password protected router or something?; OR C.) I should just give up on having the internet in my home.

If the router is protected, are you able to turn that off so that others are able to share? How do you shut that off? Or do some routers come with protection built in without a shut-off option?

If I finally get the adapter and hook it all up and am unable to share after all of this, I'll be pretty bummed. It seems wherever I move, it's nearly immposible to get a connection. It's infuriating.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I work for an Internet Service Provider doing Technical Support.

You may want to check with the router manufacturer.

I have a wireless router in my home and definitely set up security on it, no one can use it except for me. If there is a password on the connection, you can get the password and access it as well. If you turn off the security, EVERYONE can use it and that is NOT good.

We have customers who get their Internet SHUT OFF because of unsecure routers, getting viruses, etc. and spamming the network. Their service is temporarily turned off until the issue is resolved.
