wireless connection problem

My laptop (windows xp, P4) just stopped connecting to the net. First a page timed out (using firefox) then I tried to "repair" the connection. That was taking too long so I tried to cancel it, but after hitting cancel that window wouldn't disappear.
Icon at the bottom says "a network cable is unplugged"
I'm running it wireless along with this computer from a router. This computer's connection is fine (although I can only use it for 30 minutes before it overheats)
Any ideas on how to fix the main one?

Hard to tell with what little information I have, there are thousands of potential reasons. Try pulling the power cable on the router, wait 30 secs and plug it in again. Afterwards reboot your laptop.

The Windows XP ‘repair’ connection is a gag but, I would save your router settings and reset your router to the factory default.
