Anyone planning a garden for the Winter? What types of plants are you thinking of growing?

I'm considering growing potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, carrots, and perhaps swiss chard, myself. May look into a few other cold-hardy vegetables as well such as radishes, peas, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.

Potatoes do really well in my area during the Winter; I've grown red, sweet and gourmet potatoes before and usually have a decent yield.

Do you mind if I ask what your climate is like or what zone you live in?

I've been unsuccessful with potatoes - but I think I've tried to grow them when it's too hot. I know sweet potatoes do well here in summer (harvest in summer, so planted much sooner) for some farmers.

I don't mind; I believe I'm in climate zone 3. It does get really hot here during the summer, but if you keep them watered they should do okay. I think the rule of thumb is just to stick your finger in the ground, and if it's completely dry then you water.

I usually grow potatoes in raised gardens though, and treat it beforehand with garden soil. They seem to do quite well in this climate, and yes sweet potatoes especially. I've had sweet potato plants keep giving, even after being harvested; I think the root systems were just really well established.

Yes I think among other things the soil was unsuitable the last time I tried. I want to grow them in a raised container instead of mounded.

There are more challenges here than I anticipated. We did great in a really harsh climate in Texas. Now I'm in Florida and it's mild and rains a lot - I haven't been able to grow a decent tomato in three years now, except for cherry tomatoes. The peppers turn into trees though.

I been taking my cousins neighbors cutting of geraniums. And put them in my yard. I put a bunch in my cousins yard last year. They are doing well. I hope her neighbor doesn't get mad. If she ever find out. I also took Rosemary cuttings to. I hope I can get them to root. So far a nice temperature for the fall.
