  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Huh? If I really like a wine, I want another bottle! ^_^ :)blush: :sorry: )

Do you remember the name of the bordeaux? I really love bordeaux wines. I prefer reds too.
Well, the problem is that the bottle was $26...which means when I drink the rest, I KNOW I will go out and buy another bottle (or two)...thereby prompting my wife to ask me what the heck is wrong with me.

I asked my wife to email me the name of the wine, so when she does, I'll post it.

OK, it's Maximin de Corbin, 2000. Have you ever had it? Thoughts?

Oh, a St Emilion grand cru, that's yummy!

No, I've never had that wine, but I have had other St Emilion wines. Unlike the left bank bordeaux (Médoc), the right bank (St Emilion and Pomerol) use more merlot than cabernet sauvignon.

In the Bordeaux region, there are several systems to classify wine, the Médoc (including St Julien, St Estèphe, Margaux, Pauillac) system and the St Emilion system are the main ones. You had a St Emilion, which has grands crus, while the Médoc has 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th crus (1st is better than 5th, all are excellent).

Generally, if a bordeaux wine says "cru", that's a good sign. ;) Confusingly, this isn't necessarily true for the rest of France (although it is, I believe, true for the Alsace region as well) - it can be a meaningless term in other regions.

Glad you liked it. 2000 is a great year for the bordeaux region.

Yes, wine can be expensive. We had a Pauillac two days ago that cost roughly US $25 and yesterday we had a Chianti classico that cost $10. With the taste of the Pauillac in my memory, the chianti (which was pretty good) didn't taste as good as it would have had I not known that there are better wines out there. I try to save the more expensive ones for special occasions.

Know where to stop. I hope to never taste a Château Pétrus, the most expensive bordeaux wine (a Pomerol) there is. Otherwise I could not go back to affordable wines.

Educate an uncultured idiot, if you would. What's the difference between cabernet sauvignon and merlot? I tend to like both very much, but I have never been able to tell the difference.
Both are grapes that are traditionally used in the bordeaux wines (together with cabernet franc). From there they conquered the rest of the world.

Cabernet sauvignon is more powerful, and tastes of blackcurrants. Merlot is smoother and less tannic. I like both.

I have a quick question for our resident wine expert. Someone at work gave me two bottles of this stuff:

http://www.wineint.com/winedetails.asp?prod=362128

Aside from these small details, I can't find anything else about this wine. Have you ever heard of it? How are the wines from this region of Spain?

I like wine...in fact, I think it may border on love.

I limit myself to one bottle of wine per week.

I'm planning to stop at the wine store on the way home tonight and get a Chardonnay as well as a nice Cabernet. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm incredibly irritated that State law doesn't allow me to have wine delivered via mail. I'd be all over those "wine of the month" clubs.

Maybe someone else will know more about this wine. :sorry: I've never had this particular wine, but I love Spanish wines from the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Rioja. The ones you mentioned are from Cariñena/Navarra, which is a well-known wine region. I think it will be good. :)

The Spanish wines that I've had were never as strong as bordeaux or other cabernet sauvignon wines, but always slightly spicy and very good with all sorts of meats.

This one mentions the cabernet sauvignon as the first grape, which means that the wine is mostly made of cabernet, so I don't know if the taste is as "spanish" as the 100% tempranillo wines or the tempranillo/garnacha blends that I've tasted so far. I really like the tempranillo grape.

It's always exciting to taste new wines.

I had a mouthwatering pinot noir from the Geelong region in Victoria, Australia with my dinner tonight.

South African wine keeps increasing in quality. My mother, who knows much more about wine than I do, is becoming a fan.
In the Netherlands, South African wine is quite popular. Maybe because we can pronounce the cute Afrikaanse names? LOL. I like the South African spicy red grape pinotage. And they have some nice sauvignon blancs.

Bumping up the wine thread. It is a fun one. I just got some Icewine for this weekend.
Good bump!

I've never had Icewine as I don't think canadian wines are available in the Netherlands, but I've had Eiswein which is made the same way. Yum.

We had a delicious cannonau (a red wine from Sardegna) this evening.

I like wine also. (No not Boones farm) I love the California Cabernet's and lately I have been drink some Red Zinfandel's. They are delicious. You should try some Chilean Wines, they are quite good.

They recently opened a new outlet near me, called Bin ender. What the do essentially is buy discontinued high end Wines and sell them at reduced prices. You can get some really good bargains there.
