  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You can get Ubuntu Linux for free...

Linux is the most stable option available...

and if you like Ubuntu.. you'll LOVE Linux Mint... it is my distro of choice and the best in IMO... it's also a Debian based distro... www.linuxmint.com

but yea.. even though I personally think Linux is ready for the Desktop market, a lot of people are very scared of the transition... and honestly, I think Linux will be a "geek" operating system for a few more years before people really consider it as their primary OS... I usually encourage people to do a dual boot to get acquainted with it and show them how far Linux in general has actually come...

It's true that it is possible to get it downgraded to XP, it would just be incredibly difficult. I did bring it in the last time I was home in Canada, but the problem they told me was that this brand of computer only exists in Korea and therefore you need to be able to speak and read Korean to be able to get everything that you need to downgrade it. I could contact the company and try to get help, but this happens to be one of those companies that have no English speaking employees.

Anyone else using Vista? It seems to have a lot of bugs... Like right now I can't read any long threads. I don't know what the page limit is, but anytime I open one of them it immediately closes my browser. Unfortunately my computer was a notebook bought in Korea and after bringing it in I was told there is no way to get XP put on it.
If anyone here has encountered a problem like that and found a way to fix it, I would appreciate some help!

How much RAM/memory are you using? 1GB, 2GB?

It's fine if you only need to do some basic stuff.
But most distros have issues with drivers/devices and certainly the OS doesn't do a good job of running a lot of intense applications, particularily games. It doesn't do a very good job with media or using it as a media-center for your TV.

If you buy a laptop or PC, you are paying so little for the OS that the appeal just isn't there. I don't see much practical use for most people dual-booting, since you can do the same things on Windows.

You know, I am curious to see a quality article on game performance in WINE vs. Vista. All I've been able to find was a blog post that was sheer crap.

I actually tried to respond yesterday, but twice I got an error, maybe the OS wouldn't let me type "Vista Sucks".

When you have firsthand knowledge that there are people who work at Microsoft and don't use Vista because "they need to get some work done", well, what's that tell you.

Vista is ok for basic stuff.

I agree.. Linux is great, but I still think it's a developer's OS... I use to use it a lot when trying to hack embedded devices.. but that was years ago.. I now use it occasionally for school programming projects..

My primary OS is Windows XP Pro.. And will be until they decide to stop issuing security updates.. I don't think Windows 7 will be much an improvement to Vista... but we shall see...
