Even if you fixed the problem I recommend looking into downgrading to XP... Microsoft will be supporting XP until at least 2011 and will be releasing SP3 very soon.. Vista is very unreliable and very slow..
I work as an IT Administrator, and none of the 52 computers I manage at work will ever have Vista... The business/enterprise community has openly rejected XP because of it's lack of stability... I also do computer repair work and I have had countless clients with Vista that I have downgraded and are VERY happy after getting rid of the Vista nightmare...
What version of Vista do you have?
I ask this because if you have Vista Ultimate or Vista Business, you are entitled to a free Windows XP Pro license as a downgrade. It's something called "Downgrade Rights"
also, what brand is your computer?
I ask this because you need to find out if drivers are available for your specific hardware for XP. If not, you can probably still get XP installed with a little help.. you would just need to send me a Report generated by a program called EVEREST HOME.. what it does is scan your hardware and gives you details and specs about what is in your PC.. you can then generate a report and send it via email or whatever.. This would help to locate the correct drivers...
The above is just MY suggestion... if you are happy with Vista, then I'm sure you can deal with it... It might act up frequently and bog down your system, but maybe you just need it for home use and the occasional bug doesn't bother you as much as it would a heavy user... In any case, if you need help I'm sure I can assist..
