Well I tried it and was pleasantly surprised when it went on my desktop for a quick spin. It seems metro (on the desktop) has died - and so it should. Start menu back is a big bonus, not sure about the tiles but i could live with it and I think you can disable them AFAIK.

From a Linux user, I will give it the thumbs up so far - lets hope that they actually improve this as they could be onto a winner. That is, apart from the keylogger.

I hope Microsoft does well with windows 10. Am glad the start menu is back.

What's this about a Keylogger though?

Windows 10's 'built-in keylogger'? Ha ha, says Microsoft ? no, it just monitors your typing ? The Register

They collect data as like they normally do eg, scanning emails, collecting skype data etc...

I think if we actually read the EULA conditions before we installed half of this stuff then it would never be installed in the first place. The EULA is there for their protection really, not yours.

Reminds me of the classic EULA (from a company that slips my mind) which basically stated that accepting the EULA conditions gave them the right to enter your home/workplace at any time to conduct a software license audit and failure to comply would deem you (or your company) liable to prosecution.

I guess there will come a time (in the near future) when MS and others will be able to gauge if you have pirated software installed and will send out an automatic fine to those user for payment of that pirated software - that will be a revenue generator for all those poor software manufacturers...

As for revenue generators, don't forget that Windows will go to a yearly subscription model in the future, maybe when 10 comes out?

Lets not forget that the Windows 10 core is still technically Vista. Yes its really Windows 6.4 - why?, because this is the kernel (the core which drives the Windows OS) numbering scheme.

The 6 is the major revision and the 4 is the minor revision - so it's Vista revision 4.

(Actually, it's really NT 3.1, if you really think about it. :D )

Getting this set up on VirtualBox is proving to be, well, it can't be described without the word "cluster" in it. :D
I'd use real hardware, but I don't have a system to spare for it.

I managed to get it installed once, and it decided to tank my whole system for some unknown reason. There wasn't even enough CPU free to open the Start menu. I can let it slide, though, it is an unfinished beta version after all. There are bound to be hiccups.
