The hysterics this speech has sparked across Facebook this weekend drive me to the conclusion that a lot of people are stone cold crazy.
But I'd prefer not to conclude that. Any alternative explanations are welcome.

I'm hearing fears about roll-backs to the "dress reform" era, claims that he will initiate witch-hunts across various institutions, and this afternoon someone even tried to link him to Nazi-ism.

This is ridiculous.
It was a party-line sermon at a party-line convention.

I wish we could handle these sorts of transitions more rationally.

Here is the therapeutic solution for the world.

When the little scroll becomes bitter in our belly, then the living water will flow and the world will be healed through the leaves from the tree that grows on each side of the river.

Let us not go back to Egypt, but let us recognize we are captive in beautiful Babylon and the hanging gardens. We will not be delivered until the river Euphrates dries up and the Persians come and grant us the decree to leave and go rebuild the temple.
