Have you always gone by William, and not Will, Billy, Bill, etc?

I have always been William to non family members, except friends. The reason for that is that there is a tradition in my family of naming at least one male in each generation, William. That has been going on for centuries (according to most genealogies, since the 11th century). Unfortunately, this has always led to numerous William's, Will's, Bill's, etc., even quite a few Wilma's and at least one Billie among the girls.

So, to everyone else I am William. To friends and family members, I and my cousins, use our middle names, because William is always our first name. And it gets confusing when we have family gatherings and some yells "Will!" and half the guy turn to answer.

I don't really have a favorite. I can say that I have read the book of John and Revelations more than any other.

I don't take many vacations, but I enjoyed travelling through the mountains. Went to Grandfather Mountain, went whitewater rafting, and hiked the first section of the AT.

That's a tough one. As the family genealogist, I would like to visit some of the places my ancestors lived. Which would be in the UK, France, Germany, and Switzerland.

Although I can make some very complicated and ritzy dishes, my favorite things to cook are really simple. Chicken casserole, swiss steak, and of course, apple stack cake, which is time consuming, but pretty simple.

Of course, our Lord and Savior is my main inspiration, but my non-Biblical inspirations would have to be my grandparents. Both overcame adversity. My grandfather survived unimaginable horrors in combat and wounds suffered in WW2, along with being in a POW camp and my grandmother overcame the mental scars caused by my grandfathers service. She never lost her faith even though she endured some truly brutal psychotic outbursts. She truly took her vows seriously. For better...or for worse, in sickness and in health. And she suffered through all of those with him.

Your grandparents sound like they are amazingly strong people. It is shocking to hear of what people are able to endure, but more specifically how they can still move on afterwards and create a "normal" and fulfilled life.

I have never heard of apple stack cake. It sounds very Southern and looks pretty delicious (thank you Google).

Youre quite welcome. My grandparents were stoic people.

Apple stack cake is very good. You can ask @dreaminofireland about them. I gave her my recipe. Her father loved them, but the only one who knew how to make them passed away around the time of her birth. I believe it was his mother. The recipe for them is hundred's of years old and it is one of the original fruitcakes. This was before people knew about coating the pieces of fruits with flour, then folding them in so the fruit would "float" in the cake.
