Through our lives we go through struggles both great and small. Isaiah 43:1-5 is a comforting passage on big and little problems. This passage tells us that God is and always will be with us. Our God is a loving, protective father whose will for His children is not remove their struggles but to be an intimate part of each person's life. As the guiding force in our lives, God sympathizes with us in our predicaments. So much so that when God sent His only Son into this world his name would translate Emanuel which means "God with us". This name fits God well. In Isaiah 43, God is talking to the people of Israel during a time of trials and triublations. God says that he will protect His people. Verse two God says, "When you pass through the water, I will be with you and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze." Also in vs. 3b, God says, "...I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead,". Likewise, vs.4b states, "...I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life," God assures the poeple and us that HE will keep His promises. In vs2, He reminds us that he is the One who creaded us, "But now, this is what the Lord says-he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have reddemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine."' This assurance is also found in vs.3a "For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior..." In additin, vs.5 states "Do not be afraid, for I am with you.."

God knew us before we were born. He knows us by name and better than we know ourselves. Therefore, when certain dilemmas come into our lives, God is using them for our good. We can trust God and know that He is with us. It is human nature to fear situations which are out of our control. We are comforted that even though a situation is too big for it is never too big for God. Twice in these five verses God tells us not fear. Twice God refers to Himself as our Redeemer and Savior. We know that because God redeemed us through the blood of his Son. He cares deeply for us and wants to be a paret of our lives and ease our pain. Trust God with struggles that you have no matter how large and God will help you over them.
