  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not a guy, but as a girl, I expect a new date to pay at least the first time, if not for a while. After a few dates I'll pay sometimes. I also try to be courteous of his situation. If I know he's in a tight spot financially, I'll try to pay more often and come up with less expensive things to do. I'm a pretty cheap date, so it usually isn't a problem:)

My boyfriend and I take turns paying as well, although I do think he's paid for more things than me. His finances are not the greatest right now-although they're getting better, and so I'm happy to pay for something at times. In fact, since he took me to do something I really wanted to this past weekend, I was thinking of taking him to see a movie of his choice this coming weekend. I know I don't have to or anything, but I want to.

I do think the guy should pay more often than the girl though, or think of interesting free/cheap things to do if he can't afford to spend much money.

I've payed for gas to get to and from places, but if we go out he usually insists he pays for me. However, we have walked up to Subway several times, and just pay for our own selves.. he doesn't *always* have to pay for me, and I certainly don't ask him to, but helikes to. Just another expression of his love and appreciation. He wants me to know he cares and can take care of my wants and needs. :)

Well, my boyfriend Andrew wants to pay for everything and his parents feel that the guy should also. He also drives everywhere, because I stopped driving the end of February. So, I feel pretty bad. I try to give him some money whenever I can (and if he will take it!) I don't work, and he rarely works... so yeah.

Now my ex boyfriend is the complete opposite. I drove EVERYWHERE, paid for my gasoline, we went to sit down restaurants nearly everyday (not fast food), and I always paid... we worked at the same place and I always heard "I'll pay you back on payday!" It is not like I would have anymore money than he did but I had credit cards and now I am left with the debt.

As a girl I say: At the beginning the guy should pay. If he doesn't even pay the first time, it's like he isn't that serious, so it's more of a friendship outting than a date. My bf usually pays everytime we go out. The only time he doesn't is if he left his wallet sitting in the glove compartment or something.

My b/f pays more often than I do, especially right now cuz I am in a rather tight financial situation. If we both have money we have different ways of figuring out who pays. When we aren't at school and are at home with our parents then whoever doesn't drive pays. I usually always drive and it gets expensive so I really appreciate that he'll buy lunch and dinner when I'm there. When we're in school, I'll pay if I ask him out. But most of the time he pays. We fight over bills now, but that is a more common practice in his culture than mine so he is more experienced and always wins lol. :)

Overall I think the guy should pay early on to show he's serious and stuff, but after you've been going out a while just find something that works for both of you.

It's pretty simple, really.

When you're just starting to date, before you are exclusive with each other, the inviter to that particular date pays all charges. That's common courtesy. Of course, the other person can score bonus points by insisting on paying, even if they didn't do the inviting (but don't be obnoxious about it).

Once the relationship deepens, it's up to the couple to work out how things will be paid for. Usually the one in the better financial situation pays for more of it, but ultimately the couple reaches an agreement.
