Will Unix operating systems erase the M$ Windows monopoly someday?

Linux is free.. So since you don't buy it.. How can it control market?
But I think the amount of Linux (And other Unix flavours) users will increase for certain..

There is offcourse people like myself in Linux which doesn't want every person outthere to run Linux.. I won't go into details.

It's an option, but some people actually like Microsoft.

And they don't have a monopoly. They are probably the most popular OS out there... rather, Microsoft is. That doesn't make it a monopoly, that just makes it the most sold.

95% of all computers running Micro$uck$ Winblows makes it a monopoly.

It's taken so long for the general public so long to figure out how to use windoze they're too afraid to learn something else. I think the 95% will drop to about 60% in the future.

I'm trying to say that it's not a monopoly. Therei s competition for Microsoft. And the competition isn't getting squashed by Microsoft. It actually seems to be gaining on MS.

Maybe someday, if the Linux community becomes more receptive to what users actually want rather than what programmers think they ought to want. Like MS or not, Windows 2000/XP is pretty darn nice.

Right now Mac OS X is the only non-MS operating system that I'm even tempted by for desktop use. But their market share is limited by the hardware it runs on.

if they are content with their OS, I see no reason to have them switch.

If it starts screaming fatal errors at them, ok, maybe think about changing! hehe. I learned Linux purely from curiosity. I can get around in it fairly well. I'm back on Win2k now though because even my soundcard wasn't supported.

The reason Microsoft will never die out is because people don't want to think. They want to plug in their computers, put in the CD for their games or whatever, and play. They don't care how efficient it is, or who's watching, or whatever else. The open-source market will never gain the momentum it needs, unfortunately.

I think that Linux will one day take over as the main os for a few reason. Free, stable, and a great os but I think windows will also be around because Microsoft is just too big it will never go away.

I run Redhat 9.0. I love it. I think someday linux will take over but not soon. and when It does Will it be free still?
