Will Trump Negotiate Tariffs? White House Claims Over 50 Countries Want To Talk

Which Countries Have Offered To Negotiate With Trump On Tariffs?

Cambodia: Cambodia’s commerce ministry sent a letter to the Trump administration pledging to cut tariffs on its U.S. imports from 35% to 5%

European Union: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has suggested that while Europe is “prepared to respond” to Trump’s tariffs and could impose retaliatory moves in response, it was also hoping to negotiate with the president, holding off on announcing any immediate countermeasures and saying the bloc is “always ready” to talk.

United Kingdom: British officials believe they could reach a deal to remove or reduce Trump’s 10% tariffs on the U.K. “within weeks,” according to The Washington Post,

Vietnam: In a letter Saturday, Vietnam’s Communist Party offered to remove all tariffs on U.S. goods in hopes of lowering the 46% tax Trump imposed

India: Indian officials have suggested they’re likely to try and negotiate with Trump rather than impose any major retaliatory moves,

Taiwan: President Lai Ching-te said Sunday Taiwan will not impose any retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports and he wants to negotiate with the Trump administration with a goal of “zero tariffs”

Israel:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit Trump on Monday and Israel canceled its tariffs on U.S. imports even before Trump’s tariff rollout last week,

Indonesia: Indonesia’s chief economic minister Airlangga Hartarto said Sunday the country will pursue a diplomatic solution to the 32% tariffs Trump levied on the nation’s goods rather than imposing retaliatory tariffs, Reuters reports, and the country is planning to send a delegation to the U.S. to negotiate with Trump.

Promises made - promises kept - the world is coming to us.

The problem is that these new tariffs are not reciprocal. They are calculated based upon the US trade deficit. Even if some country lowers all tariffs to 0, it will not help. People in those countries would suddenly need to start buying a lot of the US goods which will hardly happen.

I cannot imagine for example Vietnam or India buying the monstrous US cars or other US goods. And I can hardly imagine the EU to consume the US low quality food.

I actually would rather see free speech in the UK instead of tariff reductions. They've gone over a cliff. They are arresting old people for Facebook posts for goodness sakes.

I would be happy to drop all our tariffs on the UK in return for total freedom of speech for them.

Australia is the similar, we can better influence other policies perhaps or come to other agreements.

We need to be concerned with the state of freedom for our Christian brothers and sisters.

An open question.
In magical land if all countries in the whole wide world, including that island of just penguins, agreed to have zero tariffs.
Keeping in mind country size, economy size, and the wages paid in said countries. Yes penguins don't earn wages.
What would happen?

People can be arrested for posts on social media also in the USA, so I am not sure what is your point, except that these people were old...?

Not sure it would make a difference to the orange-idiot-algorithm.

Case in point - the Falkland Islands (population about 2,500) charges no tariffs to anyone importing except for on tobacco and alcohol. They imported about $270k from the US in 2023 (which isn't bad going based on their population and the difficulty of getting anything there in the first place).
They did export about $25m to the US (mostly frozen Patagonian toothfish) in 2023.

The result from the orange-gorithm comes up with "while it may actually be 0%, we'll say it's 82% and reciprocate with 41% tariffs of our own"

How old do you have to be to get a free pass to incite the arson of an occupied building?

No mention of what they're offering, but I'd guess that it might be something along the lines of "we won't reciprocate to the same value on goods produced predominantly in red states.

America has just broken every trade agreement with every country.

This is a very strange idea of 'keeping promises'.

Of course every country "wants" to "talk". If this was a smaller country, then all the other countries would just turn around and say "get lost". But that is not an option when dealing with the most econically powerfull nation in the world.

Have manufacturers in France who want to export to the US returned their anti-DEI questionnaires yet?

Trump would find another cause for attacking everyone for the next round of concessions in a couple of weeks to months.

Promises made - promises kept - the world is coming to us.

I am pleased that the today’s republican party is embracing Ronald Reagan's economic policy of free trade and globalization.

Thanks to President Trump’s policies, Liberal lefty or MAGA who were previously against free trade and globalization now advocate for fair and free trade with all countries globally.

Welcome to free trade and globalization; prosperity wait for America!

France has manufacturing? I thought German manufacturing propped up the EU.
Peugeot, Renault, Airbus, Citroën, L’Oréal Paris, Garnier, Danone, Nestlé...?

Trump's not messin around with China.

"Yesterday, China issued Retaliatory Tariffs of 34%, on top of their already record setting Tariffs, Non-Monetary Tariffs, Illegal Subsidization of companies, and massive long term Currency Manipulation, despite my warning that any country that Retaliates against the U.S. by issuing additional Tariffs, above and beyond their already existing long term Tariff abuse of our Nation, will be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set. Therefore, if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th. Additionally, all talks with China concerning their requested meetings with us will be terminated! Negotiations with other countries, which have also requested meetings, will begin taking place immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" DJT 1hr ago

depends on what promises were made. Did Trump say that he would not breach the agreements? If not, then you cannot really say he is not keeping his promise not to do so.

Whether Trump likes it or not we import a LOT from China and really we cannot meet our demand with American made protects. I largely support some of Trump's efforts, but he does need to realize that this is a glabal world at this point and wheter he likes it or not the US is not an island. I am saying that as it relates to the saying no man is an island well in today's global world no country is either and nor can they afford to be and that includes us.
