  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been soooooo sick with this pregnancy. My morning sickness doesn't stick to the morning, but it lasts all day long. I'm trying to find a trick that will help me slake this sickness. I've tried just about everything that What to Expect when Expecting suggests. The only thing I think I haven't tried yet is the wrist bands. So here's my questions:
1) Were you this sick in your first trimester?
2) How did you keep from being so sick?
3) Have you ever tried the wristbands? Effective?

Thanks ladies. I would really appreciate any suggestions on getting rid of this morning sickness... or at least calming my stomach lining down. I'm seconds away from chugging Pepto Bismal.

DON'T TAKE PEPTO - it has salicylicates in it which are a big pregnancy no-no.

I was sick from 3-18weeks so I feel your pain. Are you eating? Getting up in the middle of the night for a snack? I found eating constantly and a midnight snack to be the only two things that even marginally kept the sickness at bay.

Sorry you are having such a lousy time. I really hated being pregnant for the first 18 weeks too.

My sisters in law have used those wrist bands and they swear by them. It doesn't take it away, but it brings it to a manageable level.

Ginger is good. Also, eating regularly...don't get hungry. I always found that my morning sickness would be worst when I allowed myself to get hungry. I also found that exercise helped, and so did eating potatoes (nothing was going to get them up again;)).

I've heard of a lot of women that were successful taking 1 or half of a Unisom (tablets NOT capsules), and it was on the list my OB gave me of things I could take for morning sickness.

Ginger ale always worked well for me.

the wrist bands worked great for me, didn't take it completely away but helped me get through work. Also I had morning(all day) sickness in my most recent pregnancy until well into my third trimester, with the first daughter it was only into my 17th week with a bout every now and then until 26 weeks.

I ate a lot of small meals to, more like grazed on fruits and veggies all day, gingerale helped as well.

LOL, thanks so much for the suggestions ladies! I think my body is getting used to the nausea and is learning how to ignore the urges to vomit. Fruit is the only way I've been getting down enough fluids, and it seems to be keeping the nausea to a minimal level. Apples and bananas are working for me. And the bedtime snack worked wonders too. Thanks a bunch!

try to eat some dry cereal or crackers before you lift your head when you wake up in the mornings. I was only sick for 3 weeks...I think I threw up a total of 10 times...but in the mornings I would get so so nauseas. I would keep crackers next to my bed and eat a few before I got up..it helped a lot.

Okay... I got sea bands a week ago, and I noticed a huge difference. My vomitting completely stopped, and the nausea became bearable. The tricky part is making sure you get the beads on the right pressure point. If you miss the pressure points, they will not work. I think they're great! I noticed the biggest difference in the car. I got really sick being a passenger in a vehicle, but with the bands on, I don't feel sick at all. I'd give them a try... they're worth the ten bucks.

I had it worst when I was driving, they really saved me during work, as I drive a bus.

Ginger snaps kicked my nauseated feeling. What kept me from getting sick in the morning was eatting a few saltine crackers before lifting my head from my pillow and drinking a 7up or sprite. The carbinated water does something, caffine isn't good for the baby, and most pregnant women I know refuse to drink while pregnant, I always drinked 7up or sprite in the morning. Helped alot.

DO NOT DRINK WATER when you are nauseated! it will make you sick.

i haven't had bad morning sickness, but when i do get sick, i find chewing gum really helps me...
i hope i don't get ad enough morning sickness to need the sea bands!
Studies show that morning sickness strikes at its worst for most women during the period between 6 and 8 weeks. That's when mine was at it's worst... but I got pretty sick from 4 weeks till about week 9 and then it finally started slowing down last week, which was 10 weeks for me. Just know that morning sickness is a very good sign... it means that HCG levels in your blood are rising at rates they're supposed to and chances of miscarrying are much much less if you get really sick. So as your kneeling at the toilet, thank God for every bout of sickness... it means your baby's healthy.
