What would it be called in the US - the vote is for the Presidents opponent and in response he dissolves congress to force another vote - attempting to retain power.

Well, OK, I just don’t make the correlation.

To me, it’s like comparing the business practices of Walmart in the US with say Target, and then using your corner store not giving the employees free chips with their meals as an example. In my humble opinion, it doesn’t relate, but thank you for replying.
Huh. Well I see as a corollary but I'll defer to your OP.

it is the epitome of election denying - the population votes the leftist leader out of office - so the leftist leader dissolves the parliament in the hopes he can retain power.

The population hasn't voted Macron out.
1) It were elections for the European Parliament, not French presidential elections.
2) Macron isn't leftist, but moderate right wing.
3) Macron doesn't deny any election. He tries (indeed) to consolidate his power in France by organizing speedy elections, but doesn't deny the result of the European elections.
