Will Technology Destroy Man?

As greater advances in cell phones, computers, and other forms of technological instruments become available to society, the world does seem to be more interconnected with humanity than ever.

But would it be fair to also suggest that this sudden, insatiable need to be "electronically" interactive with others, while positive for the purpose intertwining people together, may well result in man's eventual complete *disconnect* from the seeing the necessity of seeking a relationship with God and maintaining belief in religion?

Was this part of God's ultimate plan?

there is deffinately a barrier of sorts... but its also an opportunity for us to get connected. its ultimately up to us in all situations to keep everything in check on a daily basis. there is way to many 'false idols' and distractions. look for the good in everything. if we keep our eye on the prize, we'll still able to move mountains. bless your heart! what a good topic for us to ponder. i encourage fellowship on these things. we all need our daily tune-ups. i'm deffinately looking for them myself. xo dee

Well looking at your thread title, I think of bigger things than your post. We won't kill ourselves off, since our world is held in reserve until Judgment by fire. But technological advances, saying "peace and safety?" We're told that's when sudden destruction comes. 666 is man, w/o G-d, pretending to "have it all together." It would be good not to be found w/ thoughts like that in our minds, nor works like that in our hands ...

So idols are not just graven images. And yes, such stark contrast will make His final Judgment Just, which will be quite the feat!

I think if the faith in God is real, it would stand the test (whatever it will be).

I adore technology. But I also adore God. I don't see how they would conflict. In fact, technology helps me to get to know God better (it has tools which help me think and analyze things better and hear more )

Why would technology eliminate religion? Unless, the only reason that people believed is because they were ignorant. If that was the only reason they believed (because they didn't know how things work), then their faith was not real faith. Theirs was just a belief (ignorant and blind belief, I might add) in something they never saw or understood.

Real faith, a real connection of your spirit with God's spirit is not hindered by technology. In fact, it helps you understand God better. God created this complicated world. To study it, to know it better, is to know how God works. The more you know of the details, the more you would marvel at His greatness. You don't have to be ignorant to believe in God.

And yes, I believe that lack of technology keeps people in ignorance.

You know what's weird? In spite of all the electronic interconnection, people are becoming increasingly isolated. Electronic interactions are replacing face-to-face ones. People are staring at the screen of their computer, or cell phone, or Ipod rather than sitting with their friends and family interacting with each other in-person. They steal off into virtual worlds where no one knows who they really are, where they can be totally unlike their real selves and do things they would never normally do. They "disappear" into game worlds, hunting monsters, and building the lives of game characters, and investing their God-given treasures (time, energy, and money) in fantasies. The result is that especially younger people are losing the basic skills of normal social interaction. They sit together in groups texting one another rather than actually talking with each other. Sociologists call this sort of behaviour "hypersocialization" and they are very concerned about its destructive effects on younger generations.

I think so. It seems to me to be mostly about distraction. Occupy people's minds with the endless stream of information and entertainment that flows from the 'Net and they won't have time to "be still and know God." Interrupt their thoughtful, introspective moments with a cell phone call, or a text message so they won't ponder too deeply the things in life that really matter. Overstimulate people's senses with a rapidly-changing rush of images, and voices, and sounds so that real life grows dull and lifeless in comparison. This is how the devil is using modern technology to keep us deaf to the still, small voice of God's Spirit.

I dunno'. It sure seems to have the fingerprints of the devil all over it, though.

Technology is a blessing and a curse. It can make work so much easier and more efficient. But it can be distracting and an idol for so many people. Even everyday things like TV are a pretty big issue; it's easy to sit in front of it all day, being lazy and not think of God once.
So yeah, I think technology is becoming a religion

Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head. Man is finding that more and more of his problems are being solved through technology (infertility, medicine, entertainment, security, travel, warfare, etc..) and this is leading many to believe that man IS God, or at least that man doesn't need a God. It will all come crashing down one day though. All it takes is a little blip of radiation from the sun to knock out all electrical systems on earth. It has already happened to a couple of satellites and disrupted cellphone service for a few hours in parts of the US a few years ago.

Maybe there are more large-scale natural disasters now than there was before because God is trying to remind mankind that He is still in full control. The sad part is that much of the world still doesn't get it. Of course thats the way the world is going to be in the end times as foretold in Revelation so it should be no surprise.

That is exactly what I see happening around me, too! The Devil certainly IS using technology to lure folks away from Jesus, in a really big way!! It's truly sad. It just seems as if so many people (too many!) become ADDICTED to the Internet, texting, etc., etc. They allow it to take up far too much of their time. It is profoundly sad to see online pals taking up time and replacing REAL-LIFE FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Not to mention the many, many accidents from people foolishly texting while driving -- that is a real tragedy!

The dark side of technology appears to be that it is, in part, Satan's offering to man as a solution to the curse God placed on the earth " for our sake ". ( See Genesis 3 esp. verse 17 )

No more pain in childbearing, we've got super painkillers !

No more sweat of our face, we've got air conditioning !

No more thorns and thistles, we've got herbicides !

But if one will notice, all these "advancements", come with some really bad setbacks...which aside from significant physiological and environmental damage, tend to give the impression that God is no longer needed to remove the curse, for we've found a way around it ( sort of - but not really ), yet when modern technology has an answer or imitation for all that God has cursed or promised/shown He will bless - then will be the end. ( Or at least that's the strong sense of things being beheld as though in a vision.)

And this fits with why accepting the "beast system" in the last days is pronounced as being damnable by God - for it is the essence of self-assertion against God/ The Truth of God; and is thereby Satanic in it's blatant disrespectful contempt and rebellion.

Yet, if refusing the "beast system", means we can no longer buy or sell - such will actually separate us, ( for our own good ) from the defiling practices of serving mammon ( the love of money ).

And since at that time, Christ's Return will be very near, it is imperative that His Church be without spot or blemish - hence God allows the antichrist to come into power for what appears to be 3.5 years...during which time many will be tested to the max.

We are warned the love of many will wax cold, and many will suffer greatly, even unto being put to death... and yet there will be some who will be given a place of refuge in the wilderness - those of us who come to the place spiritually where we can "keep the word of His Patience".

Most of the above is directly based upon verses in The Gospels , Revelation + Daniel.

The rest is what appears to be given as revelation, to one seeking truth.
