  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will God kill others due to our prayers or broken promises?

So there's zero possibility that God would kill someone if I asked for that as punishment?
Zero possibility.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:
5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
John 10:10 Jesus said He came to give us life and give it more abundantly.

Killing is not in His will for us.

Thank you so much. If god doesn't do what we ask at times then how does prayer work?

Asking is another matter. It is still God who decides, not us.

God will not act against his own nature; he cannot be other than merciful and compassionate to us and to those we pray for.

I worry that God would kill people in order to punish ME for my sins because I don't want anyone to die. I would feel horrible forever if I caused that.

God isn't like that. Really not.

Talk of punishment is really out of place in relation to God. God sustains life by his will and takes away life when it is time. He does this for his own reasons, not because we might think it a good (or bad) idea.

As I said above none of us can manipulate God to do what he does not want to do. Life belongs to him.

I promised god that I wouldn't drink and that if I did to kill my girlfriend if I stayed with her. And now you're telling me that he will kill people to punish me. So I'm afraid I have to leave the girl I love or he will kill her.

No, God won't punish anyone.

If the promise relates to symptoms of OCD then it was not a free promise but a compulsion. It was not really a promise at all.

God won't kill anyone because of words spoken as a result of a compulsive condition. He will look with mercy and compassion on the person speaking, as any good parent would.

You don't have to leave the girl you love; not as long as she wants to be with you and you want to be with her.
