anybody know where i can find a video clip of last nights performance of - was it defying gravity? - whatever song wicked did at the tonys?

You won't be reading this until after you return from your excellent visit to New York City, but I want to reassure you of something.

The "Defying gravity" which was performed at the Tony Awards was a "chopped up" version of the real thing. (Either because of time constraints for the television program, or to remove some more obvious "Wicked" storyline information, or maybe even a combination of both?)

I've read on the Wicked forum that the song was "speeded up". (I thought it seemed rather rushed when I watched it.

I haven't seen the Musical. :(
But I listen to the soundtrack often.

And the Tony Awards' presentation of "Defying Gravity" was a let down.

I had seen "Defying Gravity" (minus Kristin, because she was ill) performed on the Letterman Show back in November, and THAT was awesome and closer to the Soundtrack version.
(Without Glinda, some of "March of the Witchhunters" was included.

ANYWAY, :) what I'm saying is: you are actually lucky to have missed the Tony Awards' version. You're getting the real deal.

--

And, yes, I am jealous that you get to spend time with Paul Shaffer, an original member of the Blues Brothers Band.

And, yes, I am jealous that you are seeing "Wicked" with the original cast.

Details. :) We want details of your trip!

News Update:

The new Glinda, beginning on July 20th has been announced.

Earlier, PLAYBILL's online magazine had announced that Laura Bell Bundy (current understudy) had the role after Kristin Chenowith's run. This PLAYBILL article lasted all of two days (or less!) Seems it was a bit pre-mature.

As of the June 10, 2004 PLAYBILL article, the role of Glinda, beginning on July 20th goes to Jennifer Laura Thompson.

EDIT: Today's [Saturday June 12] "The Today Show" on NBC does NOT have a Wicked performance. :(

According to a listing on playbill.com, today was to have a performance by "Wicked".

[Every Saturday, is A performance by A musical.]

From 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., I saw 2 or three "Wicked" posters held by people outside the NBC studio. (I saw this on TV.)

And when the 2 hour long program returned, around 8:05 a.m., the host, standing outside telling the television audience what this hour would include [ having his back to the folks behind the baricades] said there would be a performance from Caroline, or change.

I was shocked.

And I could see some of those people behind the baricasdes were equally shocked.

It's supposed to be Wicked.

No explanation as to this being a change. As though this is the first announcement [ignoring the Playbill listing]. As though the cast of Caroline, or change just happen to be giving a performance, as though these things are not scheduled in advance.

---

GUESSING:

Maybe as Idina is going on a two week hiatus soon, "Wicked" cancelled their scheduled appearance?
Maybe as Kristin's run ends July 18, "Wicked" cancelled their scheduled appearance?
Maybe Playbill's listing was accurate when it was origianlly posted, and NBC didn't ament its listing and so Playbill did not know of the change?
---

Yeah. I am disappointed.
