These people still thrive today, under all kinds of names.

As for how they got the powers.. they are playing with things they do not fully grasp, and they will pay the price for said actions, even if some of them are not fully aware of the price.

Dose god leave a path open to them to save them selfs? And if actions are stronger that words what about those who use sead powers for comunity? What if thay wanted to spread gods word with them?Show prof to ppl that dont belive?

Well, great questions

I believe God leaves the door open to them, but that is between them and God. I can not make that call or judgment.

However, you can not spread Gods word and works, if you do not depend on God for his providence. You either have Faith in God, and he will provide, of you do not.

can you show which bible verse you are referring to here please?

I believe God saves any kind of sinner. Acts 19:19 shows where many came together and burned all their sorcery scolls publicly and confessing and repenting of their sinful ways. I also have seen plenty of contemporary christians who have said, including in this forum and at church services, they used to be witches and are now christians. here is a link from some http://webrings.jlym.com/cgi-bin/webring/list.pl?ringid=exwitchoz;siteid=exwitchozblog, I am not personally involved with them, but they seem sincere.

and why don't we hear more about them? there are probably several reasons, some may include, we aren't listening, also christians do not put much emphasis on our sinful pasts, we share a little bit, but prefer to show and exalt Jesus Christ, and also same reason why church services may not want to be too involved in that kind of talk at church is it may seem to be glorifying evil and satan, we are encouraged to keep focus on God. some things are also very personal and deep, you will know more about people if you get to know them, if not, then people won't tell you much about themselves, that's just some of my thoughts.

Acts 13 6 There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus, 7 who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. 9 Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, 10 "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? 11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun." Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord. 13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.

Acts 8 9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power." 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.

Acts 19
17 When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. 18 Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. 19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. 20 In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

Rocklife,
I believe the scripture mentioned is where Simon tries to buy the power of the Holy Spirit in Acts 8 18 and is rebuked by Peter

I agree with Key here, there are plenty of people involved in witchcraft under various names. The term socerer and warlock are not used as much perhaps but pagans, witches and the like are still practicing. There is a huge increase in people dabbling with the occult particularly as you can almost make your own 'version' of witchcraft these days and of course religious freedom has stopped all burning at the stakes. You can now practice satanism in prison or in the army, places where it was until recently forbidden.

I don't think people consciously trade their souls in return for power, but rather follow a cleverly disguised route away from God. There are plenty of wiccans and pagans who help their communities,They are still people, so do hindus, muslims, hare krishnas, jehovah's witnesses etc etc. However if you do not call on the Lord's name and accept His salvation you will not enter His rest and see heaven.

God will forgive anyone who repents but you cannot serve two masters. You have to choose who you will serve, the prince of this world or the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In other words if you practice the occult when you accept Christ you have to leave this behind.

I doubt there are too many who preach the true gospel and still practice the occult since a revelation of the truth would make you see the occult for what it is a lie, a falsehood, a mere shadow of true power.

As for whether those that practice in occultic things have power, some do indeed have supernatural powers operating through them which are demonic in origin. Many however are little more than illusionists or charlatons or living a romantic version of paganism. There is however a real supernatural realm and the devil and his demons do have power, however God is still on the throne and thw word says He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world.

Jesus defeated satan and made a public display of him at calvary so he has no authority over those that follow Jesus.

So jesus used satan to prove that he was the one true son of god? So useing sead "magic" as a tool to turn others to god would be concetered a sin going aginst god?Even if that person stated publicly that it was not there power and what thay did was not good.Jesus defeated satan i know this to be true.God dosent force others to face the truth that he is real would it be wrong of a person to show another that god is real and he dose have power here and over all things.

So true. Anyone involved in the occult and claiming to preach the Gospel will always have a twisted version of the Gospel. It may only be off by a couple of degrees at the beginning, but as time goes by, the distance between the Truth and a lie grows. At some point, (superficially) glorifying Jesus will morph into a cult of personality.

Jeane Dixon claimed to be a Bible believing Christian and that her "prophetic" ability was from God. I guess she missed all those Scriptures that warned not to get involved in astrology. I seriously doubt anybody found God through her "ministry", but many were sucked into the occult. BTW, I was living in San Diego the day California was supposed to drop off into the Pacific Ocean according to her. I wasn't impressed with her before then and certainly not afterwards.

As I understand the story of Jim Jones, he started with a legitimate healing ministry. Somewhere along the way, he got the idea that HE was the source of the power. Once he started to believe that (and according to Fred Price, openly preached it), he crossed the line into the occult and any power he demonstrated was demonic. It openned the door for the demon influences to infect him with pride, and later, fear, which grew into paranoia. The rest is history.

Jesus didn't 'use' satan, he defeated him. When the devil tempted Jesus and tried to get him to prove his miraculous powers Jesus rebuked him, he did not put on a show to prove his power. Jesus used his power to glorify the father and to heal and deliver people. His goal was/is always to lead people to the Father.

There are some cities where you'll see witches and warlocks in the phone book.

Christians believe that these powers given to people are not from their own works, but from spirits. These spirits have a history and reputation for turning on people... appearing helpful at one point, then destructive at whim. God wants to protect us from being so controlled by something that can so easily destroy us.

Similarly, God allows His power to flow through us. But it's not our own doing. He will use His power to help others through us, but will not change his support on a whim.

Do u think thoughs ppl traded there souls for supernatral powers?
There are many legends of people trading their souls, but there is nothing that can stop God from rescuing someone's soul from evil. Even if a person thought they'd lost their chance, they haven't. God call pull the most posessed person out of danger.
