  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You're absolutely right in that a refined approach shows that you've at least thought about the problem and are not just trying to rubberstamp converts with rote recitation of bible verses. I can't say I think there is actually a convincing case you can make for your beliefs, so I can't really help you there, but if a mindset like yours means not being subjected to Pascal's chuffing Wager for the eleventy billionth time you have my undying thanks.

Thank you for saying, Gadarene, that means a lot.

In my last post I should say that the intelligent conversation goes both ways. Christians like to think they have all the answers, but in reality there are some questions that perplex over and over. I have found some of your posts on here have helped me consider things outside of the box of traditional Christianity and to find that our traditions don't actually represent the heart of God. For that I thank you.

Kind regards,

Mike

Aw, no worries - although I feel like it wasn't paying you much in the way of compliment! :) :sorry:

Well, some questions perplex everyone. I suppose atheists like me just make a point of arguing that they are definitely perplexing to everyone and we can't know the truth yet for sure :p :D

Interesting. I promise I'm not doing this to toot my own trumpet, just that I find it quite rare for people online to mention that their opinions have changed, never mind in response to anything I've personally written - what exactly did I post that changed/helped change your mind?
