• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What do you mean by "baptized in the Holy Spirit"?
Jhn 1:33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Act 11:16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Does that help?

i know that I have been sealed with the Holy Spirit because I received the sacrament of chrismation from a priest of the Orthodox Church. God has given us these methods so that we can know we have the Holy Spirit, and not constantly be guessing about it, or questioning what spirit we are listening to or following.

I was sealed with the Holy Spirit at my Chrismation.

If you are refering to the pentacostal-style "baptism in the Holy Spirit", that happened at 5 and I spoke in tongues for 15 years. I do not believe in this anymore.
Why claim that it happened to you but you dont believe in it anymore? Were you the last to recieve it?

Quite honestly, while I do believe that it still happens I believe that it is rare. I don't believe what passes for it in most Churches is real.

What I experienced in Churches was mostly emotionalism. I witnessed a lot of that.

I received the Holy Spirit when I was regenerated by God by the spoken Word through the Law and Gospel. I also received and was sealed with the Holy Spirit in my baptism.
______________________

There is no other God-given Baptism today beside the Sacrament of Holy Baptism:

- Eph. 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

The sacrament is not a water-only or a Spirit-only baptism, but a water-and-Spirit Baptism.

- John 3:5 No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
- Titus 3:5 He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

The special signs granted by the Holy Spirit were not another "baptism," but they proved the truth and power of the apostles' preaching.

- Acts 19:6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
- 2 Cor. 12:12 The things that mark an apostle-signs, wonders and miracles-were done among you with great perseverance.

The Scriptures teach that the Holy Spirit gives gifts to His church. They teach that ...

A. the Holy Spirit through the Word and sacraments freely gives to all Christians the most precious gifts: faith in Christ, the forgiveness of sins, and eternal life;

B. in apostolic times the Holy Spirit also gave some Christians the gift to perform miraculous signs and wonders (for example, healings, speaking in tongues, raising the dead).

The Scriptures do not teach, however, that God will necessarily give all Christians in every time and place special miraculous gifts. The Holy Spirit bestows His blessings according to His good pleasure.

It is a very scriptural experience, years after pentecost too.

Paul in Ephesus
19:1 And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland [1] country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. 2 And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” 4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. 7

There was also a lot of "emotionalism" when our Lord entered Jerusalem in Matt 21 :)

Matt 21:10 And of entering Him into Jerusalem, is moved/shaken/eseisqh <4579> (5681) all the City saying "who-any is this"?

Used 1 time in Revelation:

Reve 6:13 And the stars of the heaven fall into the land as fig-tree is *casting the shriveleds of her by a great wind being shaken/seiomenh <4579> (5746).

Strong's Number G4579 matches the Greek σείω (seiō), which occurs 5 times in 5 verses in the Greek concordance of the KJV

4579. seio si'-o apparently a primary verb; to rock (vibrate, properly, sideways or to and fro), i.e. (generally) to agitate (in any direction; cause to tremble); figuratively, to throw into a tremor (of fear or concern):--move, quake, shake.

Well, I didn't take it that being emotional is wrong in itself. It depends on what the issue is--seeing a celebrity (above) vs. thinking you've received spiritual gifts that other believers have not. Quite a difference there.

Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, commanded (Matthew 28:19) that his eleven disciples went and baptised in 'the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.' I was baptised so. Had I been baptised in the name only of the Holy Spirit that would not have been in accord of the very words of Our Lord.

peace,

Anglian
