Why is it I see so many supporters of Michael Rood outside of actual Messianic Jews and very few inside of them?

Who is a reliable source of Messianic ideas?

What does everyone think about David Stern's translation of the Bible?

You know I just generally want to know who you think is reliable and what websites you find are reliable sources.

Who you think to be reliable depends on what you think Messianic Judaism is. The historical representatives of Messianic Judaism are the MJAA and UMJC. These organizations were functioning back when Michael Rood and those like him were nowhere to be found (on the Messianic scene).

The historical representatives of Messianic Judaism are the MJAA and UMJC.

When the term 'historical' is used in this context, it should be understood that hte MJAA and UMJC have had major influence only in the past 30-40 years. While the MJAA had its origins in Hebrew Christianity (HCAA) around the turn of the 20th century, it was extremely small.

Traditional and ancient Messianic Judaism has been around for many centuries. The more traditional form of Messianic Jews, who will often call themselves Jewish Believers, reject the more predominantly christian influenced works such as David Stern.... while the UMJC and MJAA whole heartedly accept these works.

So it really depends on which direction you want to follow, the more traditional form of Messianic Judaism that reflects a more Jewish thought patter, or the more modern forms of Messianic Judaism (such as the MJAA, etc) that reflect a more christian thought pattern.

Works such as David Stern's Complete Jewish Bible and Messianic Jewish Manifesto are great stepping stones on the journey......... and were VERY forward thinking and controvertial at the time they were first introduced. They still have value today on the path of study and learning. They are EXCELLENT tools for prying open the vault of our old learning and doctrine and letting in the first flush of fresh air

I must agree with Henaynei, that as one breaks away from traditional christian thinking David Stern's commentary and translation are a rather radical change. However, as one walks down the path of Judaic thinking, this becomes rather elementary (to put it lightly).

I agree with this. I'm aware of some problems with Stern's CJV Bible, now, but when I bought it and the commentary to go along, it was just what I needed when I needed it, and it opened my eyes very much to reading and viewing the Word for what it truly says, and beginning to set aside my "man/the Church/Christianity-told-me-that-this-scripture-says-THIS-so-it-obviously-DOES" glasses.

LOL - The McGuffy Readers are no "elementary" reading for those who have yet to master the vocabulary - Even the college students of today find that McGuffy still has something to teach them - even at their advanced level of learning One does not disparage their kindergarten teacher when earning a doctorate, rather they laud the tools and sacrifice that enabled them to learn and grow

Katydid - Start where you are and be very careful to not run ahead too fast - many an eager Messianic student has left MJism because they tried to go too deep and far too fast!! "Little moves, Ellie, little moves" [one day someone is actually going to recognize that quote - LOL] Learn well and throughly, check and discuss, search and research the scriptures, before moving on......

I understand your analogy and tend to agree to an extent. However, there were things such as my high school charasmatic church that did shed individual truths about G-d. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to point people to start out there either

However, in this scenario, I'll stand with you Henny and encourage Katydid to continue on her path. Eventually she will find HaShem and all that He has for her.

You're obviously having a tough time with your beliefs right now, but also you are very keen to find out the truth. So good to see.

I too, am an avid searcher of the one and only truth of YHWH.

Why is it I see so many supporters of Michael Rood outside of actual Messianic Jews and very few inside of them?

When I first ran across Mr. Rood's site several years ago I emailed him asking about several concerns I had after reading his site.

One being that he made quite a big issue and originally based his ministry on the prediction that Messiah was going to return on September 11, 1999, and that he promotes himself as a rabbi.

I have searched for the email with his answer and it seems to have been eaten in one of my various system crashes over the last few years.....

However, the jest of his response was that he *totally* ignored my inquiry into the false prophesy and stated only that he claims the title "rabbi" because he is "a teacher," he also claims to be Jewish on his site, but admitted he is not. He has since closed the web site www.6001.com and his current site makes no mention of his past false prophesies as far as I could see. .

For my money:
1) He is false in claming to be a Messianic Rabbi - His ordination was through a cult known as The Way International - he has never had either Rabbinic or Messianic training - he has never even had a Messianic Ordination. Claiming the title of Messianic rabbi because he is a teacher is deceptive and manipulative.

2) He is a false prophet and uses his admittedly dynamic oration and his flamboyant "period" dress to excite and gather many people - but he is still a false prophet. By biblical defination a prophet is correct 100% of the time - especially when he says he has a message from HaShem!!

3) Another excellent tip off is that no where on his site can you find a statement of faith/doctrine, especially on the deity of Yeshua - the denial of which is a foundational belief of The Way International, the organization through which he received his "ordination."
