  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:( The amount of hate for Catholics is amazing, go to the general theology, go to the Baptist or the Pentecostal or the Fundamentalist forums and just look at the hate they have us. I can not subject myself to this for much longer. Ever since Christmas I have been going to this site less frequently. I like all of you a lot but the other forums on this site drive me mad.
I recently got an infraction for arguing about the Blessed Mother on the Pentecostal forum, I think it was Pentecostal, not for actually arguing about Her attributes but for persistently correcting people when they say we worship Mary.
My advise for all of you

The hatred among those of the Christian faith is huge. Well known. I questioned if I should put Catholic in my icon thingy. Didn't - then did. I usually don't put anything other than Christian as hatred can flow from any side of any demonination to another very easily. I hope that what you report isn't so. :-\ If people can't be christian, no matter if RC or Baptist or any other, or at least be civil, I will not argue with the unreasonable. I will ignore and try to post with others or I will pick up my cookies and go home.

I am extremely new here. I am impressed so far with those who walk the walk and their posts. Humbled greatly. However did go look a bit. Some of the posts I saw speak poorly of any Christianity of those showing religious hatred etc. No, no names etc. as that is playing into hatred and religious bigotry. I guess I am too new to really judge yet. May God bless us all when dealing with each other and those of differing faiths.

I never post anywhere but here. Having tried to discuss a few subjects, I now know better.
anawim, with 2,250 posts and a mod to boot! (I am duly impressed!) What you say doesn't speak well for this forum at all. Altho there are always nasty people, what you say is a serious heads up for me.

I agree. If those people wish to remain in ignorance instead of actually coming here, asking questions etc..well..the heck with them. At least they're Christian, God will deal with the rest. Personally, I stay away from such forums because its bad enough theres a fundie type/ultra orthodox strain running thru the Catholic faith, that I agrue, let along deal with ultra evangelicals, baptists, etc.

The problem is such posters feed the anti-Catholic bias that is prevalent in Protestantism . . . . If allowed to go unchecked, it will gradually erode away at the Catholic place here at CF . . . . .

But, there is no point arguing with people who have no desire for the truth . . . . .

You're thinking about this all wrong. Stop victimizing yourself.

Instead of throwing the pearls in front a swine, use them to buy the swine and have a pig roast.

End of Problem.

Yes, you are right. there are alot of people who seem to hate the Catholic Church.

That said, I would say there are more Protestants that, while they disagree with the doctrine of the church, they love us Catholics and consider us brothers in Christ. Recently, I am trying to focus on these brothers and sisters when debating doctrine as opposed to getting sucked into the Catholic defendebating with the few(but rather LOUD) Catholic haters.

Peace.

Rhamiel,
Don't let them disturb your peace. Many of them have been brought up to think a certain way, and are ignorant of the Church's teachings. You will do more to win them over by your patience, your reason, and your calm demeanor, than bringing emotion into it.

Remember, as Catholics we are called to a higher standard.

Blessings,

-Davide

The "crux of the issue" both sides of the fence , by what they have been taught, perceive that the other side is wrong & in need of instruction to the contrary ...

Many have opinions of other denominations , because of what they have "heard" from some one , some place .. being on the " outside , looking in " and perceiving that "different" is wrong ...

Catholic book stores have a small text " Scriptural References to the Baltimore Cathechism " which will give you chapter and verse to respond to detractors .

Many have been taught that none of the 7 books in the Catholic bible are mentioned in the New Covenant , not understanding the foot notes in the NAB OR DR text , nor that the question of the Pharisees about the woman who had 7 husbands was from the book of Tobit

Many wonder about the Magesterium , Pope , and form of church government , forgetting that god told moses that aaron and his seed would be the high priests ( similar to Peter and the church ) , or that moses set up the rulers of the congregation at his father in law's suggestions ... rulers of 10-50-100-1000 ( similar to priest , monsignor , bishop, cardinal, etc)

many argue about 2, 4, or 7 sacraments (ordinances) , when all practice the 7 catholics mention ... marriage , laying on of hands , confession of sin , baptisms of water and spirit , etc.

some of the problem is one of "symantics" for we use a similar word which has a different meaning on each side of the fence ... some is the way we look at the Holy Writ ...

different , is not wrong , just different
