• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

talitha,
I thank you for sharing your personal experiences. However, I think this statement was incorrect:

talitha said:
The desire of the flesh that this kind of music and lyric fulfills is the pride of being your own god.

That's not this particular song does at all. It challenges one to think. To take in and believe in something as large as a worldview or philosophy or religion just because that's what you were told was right won't hold much weight when faith is tested. If you're going to believe something, you should believe it with all your mind, and if you're going to believe it with all your mind, you should know why you're believing it.

I do see a message of hope in some secular lyrics. If you look close enough, you might even be able to let God show you something through them...

Has anyone reported this thread yet? It violotes the new rule laid out here: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: All members please read

Therefore from now on, any thread that revolves around a Biblical discussion/debate over the "godliness" of secular music will either be moved to the abovementioned forum (Christian Philosophy and Ethics), or, depending on its context, be deleted.

The reason why secular music receives so many posts and threads is the same reason that other areas such as the TV subforum and video game subforum receives many posts and threads - they are popular with members here, and we like to create an avenue for those members to discuss these things. It's part of providing a relaxed atmosphere here at CF - it's up to members themselves whether they listen to secular music, but there is sufficient interest in it to warrant this forum. Our forum specific rule regarding discussions on Biblical validity of secular music was created to allow people to discuss their favourite bands without having to defend whether it's godly to do so or not. This is not the main reason that I've had to close the thread, but I want to ensure that this discussion does not get out of hand and lead to a flame war. Thanks for your understanding.
