I recently found this quote about mountain climbing.
"You cannot stay on the summit forever, you have to come down again...so why bother in the first place? Just this: what is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art to conducting ones self in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can still at least know." Rene Daumel
Now I don't know anything about Rene Daumel but I do know that there is great wisdom and spiritual truth in this statement. I love to climb mountains and see things from above, in fact this quote sums up why I climb mountains. But is it not the same when we climb spiritual mountains? When we reach a point of spiritual elevation, a point when we feel intensely close to the Almighty, we are changed. As a result of whatever revelation we may have been given we are required to operate in a different manner. Furthermore, when we are seeing things from above we may not be seeing things exactly from God's perspective but we are certainly not seeing things from man's perspective.
My prayer is that if you are climbing a spiritual mountain that God will give you strength to continue on. Remember that when the going gets tough and each step is painful, there just ahead of you is He who has tread the path before us, Jesus Christ. If you are on top of a mountain I pray that you soak up the view and the knowledge that God is waiting to give you. If you are coming down from the mountain I pray that you remember what you have seen up high and that the Lord gives you the strength to boldly proclaim the vision of what is up high. Also, do not be afraid to take those first steps up the mountain, climb again, find the new spiritual truth. Eagerly seek the revelation that God has for us up high where the air is clean and God is close. Never be afraid to ask, "What is the next mountain?" There is always another one and we should consider it great joy to trudge along, seeking the next summit, thirsting for our Lord and God Almighty.
I think that will do for now. God Bless and good climbing.
