Matthew 26 verse 39- Jesus basically asks for this cup to be taken away from him. If Jesus is God in the flesh, why would "God" be afraid of anything? Also, in Luke, it said that he needed and angel to strenghthen him. Why would "God" need an Angel to strengthen him?

Jesus was fully man and fully God at the same time.
As a man, He went through what man would go through.

...and He relied on The Father the whole time.
Jesus was being the Ulitimate example for people.

The example is: Yes, it is hard. Yes, you can do it. With the Father, you can do it.

Jesus suffered.

Jesus was the perfect rolemodel....
in His relationship with The Father.

Pain hurts, and the Bible tells us that Jesus suffered greater than any man ever suffered, bearing the sins of all mankind's history - past and future. The violence He suffered was immense, being scourged with the flagellum - a wicked torturous whip like a cat-o-nine tails with broken rocks and metal knotted at the tips and then with rods.

the bible says that in order for Jesus to be a proper savior, he had to beat sin at its own game.
in order for him to save us, he had to become like us, suseptible to fear, weakness, failure...or else his victory over sin would be no real victory at all since heck, hes God and sin doesnt effect him anyway.
but the bible says he was made like us, and triumphed through the help of the father (him being the son) the way we have to...so he is a true savior of the people and won no cheap victory.

Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to Him . . . every lashing, how long He would be on the cross before He allowed death to overtake him . . .everything. In your humanity, would you not wish for that brutality to just go away? Remember, Jesus said basically "if we can do this another way, let's go for it. But if not, let's get it over with".

Simple Jesus was about to be mocked, tortured, and killed. His service and worship of the Father would momentarily climatically enacted through the cross to endure the sins of the world. He was not afraid of death or the cross, but it was joy of His selected ministry was to be finished.

Jesus, in His humanity from His birth untill His death, was physically human and felt pain as we do. He relied, trusted in, and was obedient to the Father, even unto death.
He could have at any time, even up to the last minute, escaped the cross.

The first man adam messed up and sinned and all of us have inherited this sinful nature. The wages of sin is death but God had a plan to save mankind and send His son as savior for us to pay the price for our sins. Jesus came as the second adam, he had to be born a man and live a sinless life and pay the price for our sins. Jesus became the scapegoat, the sacrificial lamb for our sin.

He had to be born a man to have the right to take back what adam had lost and also had to be sinless to be a sacrifice for our sin.

Jesus was still God but laid aside his majesty to become human. He felt every emotion we feel including fear and yet the word says for the joy set before Him endured the cross. He saw the goal as being our salvation, paying the price for the people He loved to be set free and forgiven. He did what was necessary despite the pain because He loves us.

Truly God is awesome.

Jesus was both God and man. His human nature was just as frail as yours or mine, and had a strong survival instinct. But He did not rebel and sin. He obeyed, and put His self-will in check to do His Father's will. In this example, He showed us that though obedience is hard, we can choose it.

The truth is in the fact that he was still limited to human flesh, by becoming human. He was obviously mortal until He rose again, so he died a human death, and had all the emotions that humans have. He was tempted on every level (Hebrews 4:15), but still was without sin.

He was about to be separated from the Godhead.. To be cut off from God by bearing the sin of the world.. He was about to take on the fallen nature of mankind! And you ask why?

He actually was cut off for that time, God turned His face from Him when He said "My God, my god, why have you forsaken me?".

Amen. He wasn't afraid...if anyone tells you he was afraid it is a lie. Martyrs in 3rd world countries, get skinned alive and executed and yet they do not tremble...and Jesus...was scared? I don't think so :)

Because he is also 100% human. To be that he needs to be subject to the same limitations that are inherent to humanity.

Why was Jesus weak at threshold of the cross? Because He was a suitable sacrifice. If Jesus had been an angel, then He couldn't have either obeyed or died for mankind as the law was given to and for men, not angels. Nor could He die in His Divinity because this isn't even possible. The only way Jesus could get otherwise doomed men and women off the hook from eternal condemnation was to both obey the law as a man and die under that same law as a man and this only became possible because of the humanity of Mary, a descendent of David. Christ wasn't a sinner because of Mary as the nature came through the parental father, (in this solitary case the Holy Spirit,) but he still got her weak humanity though. Since weak obedience is still obedience, Christ's human frame buckled under the load that He was facing, but He went through with it anyway to buy back His Bride, us, and so His weakened obedience was still obedience. If He hadn't been weak then He wouldn't have been a human, and if He hadn't been human then His sacrifice wouldn't have been acceptable under the terms of the law. What happened was just what should have happened, and all so that believers in Him will never face that same dark and fearful grave.
