In Mark 6, Jesus was amazed, marveled, wondered at the refusal of those who came to hear Him to believe.
Mark 6:6
And he was amazed at their lack of faith.
It seems Jesus would not have been amazed at the lack of peoples faith if it were the norm for men to be unable to believe. In fact, He should have expected the absence of faith from unregenerate men, and He should have expected nothing less than a faith response from those who had been regenerated. So, why was He amazed?
Jesus was also amazed at the Centurion who had great faith.
Luke 7:9-10
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel." 10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Again, if faith could only come to men by the direct intervention of God in regeneration, and specifically if this man's faith had come in such a way, Jesus certainly would not have been amazed at that normal operation of the Spirit. After all, this is what the Spirit does, right? So again, why would Jesus be amazed?
