My oldest daughter wants to go to a college that is an SDA college and we saw that the dorms are vegetarian. Why is that? Are all SDA vegetarian? Do ya'll consider it wrong to eat meat?
And what do you eat as a main course if there is no meat?
Any good recipes?
Thank you.

NY chef Mark Bittman has a wonderful cookbook you might enjoy. As one reviewer says, "Surely we can make a healthy diet based on basic veggies, fruit, grains, and legumes, and that's JUST what this book focuses on."

How to cook everything vegetarian: Simple meatless recipes for great food.

Bittman is not himself a full vegetarian (nor am I), but recognizes the health benefits of radically amping up how much unprocessed food one eats (and so do I). Here's part of his story.

You haven't said if your daughter plans to stay on campus or off-campus. If on-campus, try to remember what mass-produced food is like. Adventist cafeterias aren't immune to that, vegetarian though they be! :)

Health is a big issue with adventist. All you have to do is do the research to see that our meat procducts have been so altered and contaminated with disease, additives and hormones. I use to be a hunter till I started seeing diseased organs in the animals, which makes me wonder about the meats we do not process ourselves.
My suggestion to you is to learn much about seasoning because some foods tend to be bland if your tastebuds have been overloaded with processed foods. She'll survive. Just tell her to look on it as a mission trip to another country.

its all about masturbation (according to EGW), a diet which is eschewing meat prevents us from certain desires which cause all kinds of illnesses like deformed or dwarved heads (one of the two for sure). ;) thats a good one you must admit...

I rather stick to Pauls teaching that these things have no effect on our spirituality whatsoever ;)

Thank you.

Our schools have a vegetarian diet because of our health message. We are not all veggie nor do we consider it wrong to eat meat. It's simply just part of the way the schools are. And trust there are some people that can throw down with the veggie food and make some main courses that you'd choose over a meat main course.

Do you mind saying which schools she's considering?

BTW, my dad used to make a pretty good veggie lasagna. All he did was substitute beef with morning star grillers. I'm telling you I'd take that over a meat lasagna any day.
