  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why the pagans?

I'd be facinated to know why Christians seem to have a perticular vendetta against the Pagan, Wiccan and Reconstructionist faiths?

Please no claiming they are devil worship unless you have some REALY good evidence. Paganism doesn't even have a devil!

Well I think you pretty much hit on the reasons without meaning to. The association of Pan with the Christian devil was one the Holy Roman Church worked long and hard to create. It was one of the many subversions of pagan mythology that they turned into conversion tools. This stigma continues today, and even though it may not be at the conscious level, most Christians still associate pagans, and to a lesser degree all Non-Christians with Satanism and devil worship.

Amusing since many of their traditions were copied from early pagan religions.
If I am not mistaken that was to attract Pagans to Christianity, or to add appeal so to speak. Kind of like how kids like fries in a McDonald's package better even if they are not McDonald's fries.

For the same reason they are so against GLBT people. It is a smaller group than they are, therefore when they attack it an effective defense can't be raised. They know they falter when pressed against a group with the same amount of support they do, and since they can't thrive without being "better" than some other group, they have to keep finding new targets every 30 years.

Because you fed Christians(mothers, daughters, children, men) to carnivorus lions in a colloseum..You guys also burnt them on stakes in order to keep the streets lite up in the streets of Rome..Your culture advocated human sacrifice, even babys to your gods. The Indians, Mayans and South Americans took an unsuspecting victim and tore out their heart while they were still alive. Other times they would behead someone on top of their temples..Pagans persecuted christians till they were nearly extinct in the early church

Then your culture tied them up to stakes and burned them, and tied them to a rack and applied thumb screws, put hot pokers inside of people, tell me, ever heard of the inquisition? I don't think that is a road you wanna start on.

That is the biggest absurdity and a lie that continues to spread to people who don't know anything about Church history... Constantine conquered Pagan Rome..The Early Church Fathers were anything but Pagan. Many were actually converted from paganism. So why would they convert to something that is just like their own beliefs?? Chistianity is all centered on OT prophecy and the messiah. Paganism does not have a messianic redeemer, it dosen't have the true God(Yaweh), there is no redemption and salvation for its people, there is no moral law or writ, just hundreds of different "Gods" to chose from that have been molded from a sculpter...... Theres no connection to paganism..

The current anti-Pagan theme seems closer to deal with the bizarre fear that certain Christians have. There is a brand of Christianity that is based on fear. That's how they recruit - "If you die tonight, you might go to hell if you don't accept Jesus right now!!" They attack Harry Potter, ironically, and claim that he recruits Children to WITCHCRAFT! AHHH.

Ironically, because HP, in my opinion, is closer to a Christian alagory. HP is a nobody, and his relatives hate him. His relatives (the world, or "muggles") represent gluttony, self exhaltation, gossip - basically, the 3 of the 7 Deadly Sins.

HP then is shown a secret world (the spirit world) where he is actually a bit of a hero (Christians are told that they are all royalty and Princesses and Princes to God.) There, he meets those who use their power for good, and those who use it for bad. Harry must often choose between good and evil. Dumbledore plays a kind of Omnipresent God that gently guides, but allows Harry to learn on his own. He intercedes if Harry is in real danger, but Harry confronts Voldemort (evil, the devil), and while the defeat is temporary (you can't really kill evil), with each defeat, Harry grows magically (spiritually.) It also teaches the importance of friendship, humility, being honest with one another, choosing what is right .... frightening! Come quickly Lord Jesus, AND SOOOON!

I think there is also something deep down (doubt maybe?) when this same brand of Christianity is challenged by someone who is perfectly comfortable and happy not being Christian. The very idea is foreign to them. Many, many times I have had people tell me that I'm not happy, or that I simply am unhappy but don't know it, and the only way that I will ever know true peace and happiness is through Jesus. Ever meet a Buddhist monk? That is far more peaceful than say, Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson.

To see someone simply happily living a different life can be threatening to the very core of someone that insists that there is only one way to live.

I also think that some of it has to do with ignorance. There is a bizarre understanding that Pagan = Satan worship. Some will argue that anything not directly of God IS Satan worship, but to me, Paganism is actually not so distant from Christianity. There is the standard Do Unto Others (Do what you will and harm no one). Pagans cast spells asking for blessings. Christians simply pray for the thing they want. Again, very similar idea. Praying to win a basketball game is extremely close to trying to cast a spell on the other team in order to win.

I suppose that the more people learn, the more this kiknd of persecution will die off.

One reason is possibly a fear of unknown. Another is the us vs them mentality...anyone who does not belong to their tribe is the enemy. As pointed out in one post, vengeance because of what the pagans did to them when they tried to convert them.

NOBODY expects the spanish inquisition!

And not alot of people know the real death tolls of the spanish inquisition either. Which are only in the small thousands.. Ask the Moors(Muslims) why the inquisition happened(which was the real reason the spanish inquisition happened)

Kinda small compared to paganism, athiesm/communism..

Over 100 million christians have died because of athiest/communism and the Roman Pagan Empire(King Nero)

around 2,000-5000 people died in the Spanish Inquisition...Many of whom were because of Islamic threats and outlaws..

Quite a big gap.

Why are you yet again equating atheism with communism?

Secondly...why are you making generalisations?
