• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why the flood?

Why did God flood the earth instead of just useing his all powerfull powers to make the evil people just instanly go to hell? Was he after dramatics? Its not a very effecant way to do things. Why did he do it in the first place? He knows the future and he knew evil would return. Couldn't he just go forth and say, "Hey everyone I am God if you don't stop doing all these evil things I will send you to hell." And what about the children and the unborn children? Did they deserve to die? And if one says "It is all Gods plan." then i begin to question Gods "plan" he seems a bit to cruel with his threats of Hell and eternal damnation. Me personaly wouldn't worship a higher being that made people who couldn't understand his plan. Its like a man writing a word processing program that couldn't understand the language of the programer.

Why? Well, I can't speak for God...but, my guess would be that He did love His creation and did not want to totally destroy it.

God has told many people time and time again to shape up. Sadly, most ignore Him.

Me personaly wouldn't worship a higher being that made people who couldn't understand his plan
Ahh, but He does begin to reveal Himself (and His plan) to you when you step out in faith and believe in Him through His Son. I've had it happen many times to me on various issues...and, it is an ongoing process. All will not be revealed until we leave this life.

That's why it's called faith.

Perhaps when you can create life or a universe then you can fairly judge God's ways, because you would know the rules creation. We have no understanding of how to make life or worlds, and when we judge God for His way and order, we have to be doing that out of ignorance. We don't know how, but say "no no that's the wrong way". Something wrong in that - being prejudice towards God out of ignorance. In my opinion.

Acording to your belifes Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil thus gaining the ability to decern the difference of good and evil. So if we say killing millions of toddlers and newborn children is a crime and is evil then it is a god given right to judge god as evil.

Hi there!

I am replying to this thread on the assumption that you are looking for Christian answers and not a debate.

1) Why did God flood the earth instead of just useing his all powerfull powers to make the evil people just instanly go to hell?

Because God didn't repent creating man, He relented that there were a few righteous people whom He loved.

2) Was he after dramatics?

No. God's attributes of justice and righeousness make Him a fair judge.

3) Its not a very effecant way to do things. Why did he do it in the first place?

God wanted a creature that would love Him because of his desire to love God and not because God dictated that He must be loved.

4) He knows the future and he knew evil would return. Couldn't he just go forth and say, "Hey everyone I am God if you don't stop doing all these evil things I will send you to hell."

I believe those are the words of God.... Revelation 20 tells of the white throne judgment where those who do evil and don't repent... are sent to the lake of fire.

5) And what about the children and the unborn children? Did they deserve to die?

It would be difficult for a non-believer to comprehend that there is a degree of mercy in the death of a small child or unborn children. God does know the future... for there is not "time" with God... all time is the present. A merciful God judged that the innocents would be saved to eternal life through death.

6) And if one says "It is all Gods plan." then i begin to question Gods "plan" he seems a bit to cruel with his threats of Hell and eternal damnation. Me personaly wouldn't worship a higher being that made people who couldn't understand his plan. Its like a man writing a word processing program that couldn't understand the language of the programer

You may question whatever you wish. Until you know God, you will continue to question everything about Him and His Word.

I don't see God aborting children by the tens of thousands every year, nor polluting the world with the radioactive or carcinogenic filth that threatens even eagles reproduction, but man does these things and then lays blame to God.

I thought all this belonged in the General Apologetics debate forum and people with a sincere interest in Christianity could ask questions here without hindrance from unbelievers throwing indictment at Christianity and God  but perhaps I'm wrong.

Why did God go through this year long ordeal rather than just *poof* the evil doers from existance.

Because God is endless with His Mercy. He gave all those folks every chance to repent...they would not. So, He sent the flood.

Yeah, I thought the same thing and have asked the mods about it. :( No reply yet.

Yes children are born with the "ability" to discern good and evil, but they must learn how to use it. "God given" rights are exactly that - God given, and yes, a person can chose to hate God and reject His leadership, provision, and laws. Rebellion is given as a choice, but not without consequences.

See this thread. It has to do with the angels who came down unto the daughters of men and their role in the flood.

You'd understand more if you put as much time into studying christianity as you do trying to refute it.
If you want to bash someones religion, you'd be better prepared by knowing the facts first however, by studying it you might actually find that understanding cross over into one of us. lol

One reason why God flooded the Earth, obviously, was that He no longer needed those who perished. God has always preserved one generation for the necessity of producing the next one, for the purpose of saving some out of that next generation. The Lord did not need the generation that perished, for purposes of posterity, since He had the eight souls on board the ark for regeneration. He also did not need to preserve them in order to their hearing the message of truth, repenting and then finding mercy in God, because this they destroyed themselves by perpetually not availing of the preaching of Noah. We do not have the power to lock out God, but He certainly has both the power and right to lock us out, if He should so please. For now, while we are still in this world and able to respond to the claims of the Bible, this is not yet true of us, but that very privilege is just what the men of Noah's day pushed at and pushed at, until it was no more.

Natro, You asked why a flood?
I cannot give a complete answer, but a part of it is a reference to Salvation through -- Baptism--.

The flood is symbolic of Baptism.

1Peter
3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; (Jesus)3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
The flood = Baptismal pool

The Ark = Being a Christian

The number 8 = the biblical number of perfection

The dove = Holy Spirit

The olive branch = Jesus Christ

The dry land = The Promised Land (Israel - The future abode of God almighty (New Jerusalem)).

I hope that this has enlightened you.
Actually looking at it again it has enlightened me!! Praise God.....!

there is a lot of scientific evidence to back the flood. as for why the flood: why not? my dad just preached a sermon today at church about how God's ways are so far above ours. He chose to do it that way because he is God and He knows best.
Let's use Jesus as an example, ok? If you were God, and you had to send your son to earth how would you do it? I mean, your perfect, spotless blameless son. Would you make him smart, handsome, good-looking, rich, give him wonderful parents, what?
I know that as a human, I would tend to want only the very best for my son.
yet what did God do... he sent Jesus to be born in a stable... or a woman who became pregnant before she was married (scandalous!), a son to a carpenter. the bible also says in Isaiah that Jesus had no physical attributes that would cause us to be attracted to him. He was no Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt... the Bible says that there was nothing special about his looks.

God used the flood for a couple different reasons, I think. Number one it left evidence. We can see the Grand Canyon and other geological structures. it is a constant reminder of God's judgement but also his grace and mercy. go to drdino.com and click on "questions"- Dr. Hovind specifically addresses a ton of questions about the flood. the flood did really happen and there is evidence to support it. I pray that you find God's truth and that he reveals himself to you:) God Bless, babble on

I agree with FatherofPower on this one as far as God's reasoning for "why"

The whole thing is symbolic... there's probably a ton more there than I can understand at this moment, but I know there is a ton of symbolism. As God has said that His glory will fill the earth as water fills the seas. Maybe God will flood the world with His glory one day to kill all evil. Whatever God's reasons... He's a smart man.

And it seemed to be effective. Efficient... ehhh... gave the world a good scrubbing in a huge bathtub. :)
