  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If the question needs to be answered then the person asking needs to seek the true God and the revelation of the filling of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the written word of God telling of His love for us and how He continues to try and get us to turn to Him and to follow Him.

As to the derogatory comments about theology I would like to point out it is a reflection of our belief in God and our walk with Him. Since men (all men) are imperfect theology cannot be perfect. But to discredit the search for truth about God theologically is to deny mans search for a deep relationship with God.

I am genuinely curious about this. What is your personal reason for choosing the Bible as your holy book? Is there a particular reason for choosing the Hebrew Bible/Christian Bible over the Theogony? Or over The Epic of Gilgamesh? Or over the Metamorphoses? Or over other religious books such as the Upanishads or the Koran? Or over the Dhammapada?

Any answers would be great! Thanks in advance ^.^

Because the Bible is the Christian collection of sacred writings. It's what the Christian Church, over the course of twenty centuries has agreed upon as holy and inspired and useful. If I was a Buddhist, a Hindu or a Muslim, I'd use something else. However, I'm a Christian, I use Christian scripture.

Are you trying to say because I am a prophetic bible scholar that I have not been filled with the Holy Spirit and been allowed by God to be a part of many miracles, visions and works of Him.

No.

I didn't say anything. I just quoted Jesus, as recorded in the Bible.

Are you trying to say because the OP, or anyone else, needs the question answered, that he or she has not been filled with the Holy Spirit and been allowed by God to be a part of many miracles, visions and works of Him?

Man's thirst for sustainable and fulfilling relationship with God is unsatisfied by anything less than firsthand knowledge based on God's self-revelation, according to the terms and seal in the "new covenant" (Jer. 31: 31-34; Matt. 26: 26-29) from which theology is hopelessly removed!

I do not judge I testify and seek to reasure those who know. Those who question have some reason for the question and if it is they do not have the answer then they need to seek it. I have found that many who ask questions have doubts also.
Those with doubts need to be given some method of how to get assurance.

First, I'd like to point out that it would be a tremendous improvement to your posts for you to properly use the "quote" function of this forum.

Second, is assurance really the goal here?

For me, I seek after the truth, not assurance. Giving me assurance of something that may not be true is, well, like building an awesome house on a beautiful, sandy beach. I'd rather keep my doubts and my questions until I find the bedrock of truth I'm looking for than ever settle for the shifting sands of assurance that are so often handed out.

So, thank you but no thank you. If the question needs to be answered, it is because the person hungers and thirsts for the truth, for righteousness, for the true goal of our salvation. IMO, the Holy Spirit is active in the life of the doubting skeptic who keeps asking the tough questions.

Again, reread John 5:39. It was not quoted as an attack to you. If I had meant it for you, I'd have quoted your preceding post. I did not do that. However, you heard it, and were challenged by it, and that challenge formed a question within you, which you posted. Did you post this question in search for assurance, or in search of an honest answer? My hope is that you are confident enough to not need my assurance, so it was likely the latter.

Likewise, the Holy Spirit, working within the OP and others who have such questions, is challenging them in such a way that doubts and questions are formed. They ask these questions and entertain these doubts, not because they are in more need of assurance, but because they are being naturally led toward the firm foundation of the truth Jesus testified about in his sermons.

Encourage the journey, the questions, the searching, and the doubts. These things are not threats to one's faith, but evidences of it.

Why the Bible? Dr. Albert Mohler Jr. has a new blog on 7 January 2011 that addresses this issue directly, “The Christian worldview as master narrative: Sin and its consequences”.

In this article, Dr Mohler explains that the Bible’s account of the human problem goes far beyond a mere explanation of human foibles and failures. He writes, “In essence, the Bible turns directly to the human creature and offers an indictment of our rebellion against God.”

I think that this article explains why the Christian worldview, as expressed in the Bible, is radically different from other religions.

## Good question :) Because it points to Christ. And because the more I find in it, the more there is to find. It is many-sided. And it is alive, if only God makes it so. I like the mythology in it, and the variety of types of literature. And of course there's the fact that it is not alien in the way that some books are. And it has a more elevated & purer picture of God than (say ) the Theogony. None of them talk of a God who became one of us - it does, in great detail. It's far more shocking in that way - far more human, & far more divine :)

Without really looking into much of the other posts, I will just say I read the Bible regularly because I know from my familiarity with it that it has to be inspired by God. We know historically that the different books of the Bible came out at different times of history over a very long stretch of time, and yet somehow they all correlate and are linked in ways, forming the overall truth we know as the Scriptures. I simply do not think that there is anything false in the Bible, and that too many prophesies have been fulfilled for anyone to deny. The fact that most other religions acknowledge the existence of people like Jesus and Moses among others seems to be a key fact. The Bible doesn't speak of any of their key leaders of their religions. I know from the Bible that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and I want to achieve that, so I could care less about those other books that I don't believe are inspired and aren't worth my time like the Bible is. Hope this offers some insight at least into why I feel there is only one choice, because there is only one true "HOLY" book. This really in essence is a question of why do you believe what you believe or worship who you worship really.

The Bible is an introduction to a bigger truth. Christ is known as the truth, as the one who walks on the path of truth.

If you walk on the path of truth, as did he, you will understand the Bible and all other books of religion. You will also know of all the details concerning the war in the heavens. You will understand the structure of reality and how Satan tried to take advantage of it in a 100% deceitful manner, etc..

However, to this day, over 99% of the population has chosen not to walk on the path of truth, but instead has chosen to walk on the paths of beliefs and disbeliefs.

If you were to walk on the path of truth, you also are constantly moving closer and closer to the complete truth, the huge massive truth.

But the religious folk have chosen to stick to their specific religious beliefs rather than approach the actual truth. In turn, this has maintained the existence of multiple religions for oh so long. If each of these religions were to actually walk on the path of truth, then over time their differences would become less and less do to each of them now being closer the one huge massive truth.

If they spat at the path of truth, then the opposite would occur and thus wars would take place between religions as their differences grew bigger and bigger. Less people would begin to attend churches due to these people falling further and further away from truth as they move deeper and deeper into the hands of Satan's lies and deceitfulness. More and more people would begin to focus upon the "SELF" rather upon the truth which extends across the entire everywhere and thus is not confined to the vicinity of the "SELF".

Very true! The Bible is, indeed, an introduction to the truth, a.k.a., Jesus Christ in his powerful self- revelation as "I Am Who I Am", i.e., immortal "source of life"; tested and demonstrated as valid and reliable by the "Lamb standing in the centre of the throne ... appearing to have been killed", viz.: a verifiably perfect and diacritical death on the cross --the wholly impartial critical mass for man's born-again life in the Spirit beyond all religions (John 3: 14-21; 4: 21-26; 14: 6-21; 16: 19: 30-37; Rev. 5). AMEN.
