Col :)

You must have never read Foxe's book of myrters.
Anyhoot, I don't see this much in these forums, but then again I'm not looking for it. I've had great Catholic friends and I've known those who distrusted Catholics deeply.

Catholics and Orthodox believe that it is their responsibility to convert us and "bring us home" to the apostlic church.
Hmmm...when I hear, "it is their responsibility", I hear, "they are called to actively go out and convert people".

That's not necessarily true -- at least not for me. I may want to evangelize and minister, but I'm not going to "drag you to Church", so to speak...

I encourage others to seek God's path no matter what faith in Christ they choose. If a Catholic friend told me he was going to become a Baptist, I would ask him why, but I'd totally support him, because that's his walk with God...

If I didn't, I would be hyprocritical, considering that I expect that exact same kind of support from others for me right now...

Why the Animosity ?
Because there are a lot of people out there who will go to most any length to prove themselves right.

Christianity teaches acceptance, love, humility, and that we must seek the truth.
There are a lot of Christians, both Catholic and non-Catholic, who strive for this. Sadly, there are also many who do not :(

I look at it like this:

-An acquaintance walks into the room and tells me something which I know to be untrue / biased
-I calmly tell them my version of the truth and await their response
-Discussion ensues, and we either agree to disagree, OR we realise that our differences are due to perspective, OR we one or both change our thoughts.

I have my theory as to why this doesn't happen in IDD, anyone else have any thoughts?

Note: If I am not supposed to ask this question in this area I won't be offended if you need to move it or delete it or give me a smack. I wasn't sure whether to put it on OBOB or PRE, but as a protestant I thought I would be in less trouble posting it her.

This is not meant to incite anyone to violence (albeit "post violence"), or create a debate or a "my God is better than your God" discussion, nor is it meant to be a platform for eitherside to drum up business.

My question is why is there so much animosity, verging on abject dislike, between catholics and non-catholics when the core of our belief is the same.
...................................................

Perception : we have same beliefs .... yes and no ; reality is we have similar beliefs , differing on dogma , doctrine , and applications .

We have 2 different books [ Old Testament ] and same book [ New Testament ] .
We approach the Bible from opposite directions - catholics use the book to support teaching and tradition ; protestants use the book in the mouth of 2-3 witnesses to denote a doctrine .

Protestants believe entire work is literal ( genesis to revelation ) catholic's tend to believe what supports their leadership's position's is literal ( quotes on peter and keys ; peter as leader ; bread and wine as body and blood , etc. ; yet back off on scriptures like Mark 11.23-4 ; Mark 16.16-20 ; 1 John 5.14-18 ; James 4.2-3 ; 4.7 on believer's ( laity authority ).

In order to fellowship , we must avoid doctrinal issues , points of dissention , find what we can agree on ( apostle's creed , Lord's prayer , virginity of Mary , Jesus as Lord and savior , etc. ) and go from there .
