Transparency can be difficult; because then - especially in some churches - it does get to the point where people want you to justify why you needed reading time this week, or why you visited this person and not that one. There's a reason I gave people in my church an aggregated "average" week rather than submitting my record of a specific week; I didn't want to get into justifying this or that decision about stewardship of my time. And that sort of petty stuff does happen.

Part of the background to this discussion has to be, how do you understand the relationship between minister and congregation? To whom is the minister ultimately answerable? And what happens if something in that relationship breaks down?

I know many Pastors and they all work hard. Personally I do not see why a Pastor should be transparent to everyone Obviously they need accountably to other leaders within the Church or Denomination.

You say writing a sermon should 15 minutes.

Well if you read Acts 6 deacons were appointed to look after the practical issues, ie looking after the widows. So, that the leaders/pastors could devout themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word.

So, the Pastors Role should be prayer and the ministry of God's Word But often do not have the manpower, So pastors do practical tasks as well as counselling and praying for and with individual's, training leaders and so much more as other's have mentioned in previous posts.

I notice that some pastors are trying to do the minimum amount of work , very passive and I hope that they can be more active in their calling.

If you are concerned about this, there are probably others who share your concern.
I would suggest talking with an elder to ensure your impression is correct and for the elders to raise any concerns.

Without knowing the church/paster I can't comment on what his work load.

It could be that he is using his time wisely, do remember that many minister work in the evening when church members are around for meetings.

Of course you could just talk to him.

What needs transparency?

The work done by the pastors is better to have a self-record to communicate with the elders of the church.

Your answer is great.

aggregated "average" week is already good enough ,better than nothing

Jesus is our Boss not the elders in the church

But sometimes transparency and communications are the ways to prevent relationship breakdown.

Thanks for good suggestion.

No , writing a sermon should be much longer than 15 min.
Some pastors said thet have to use 15 hours that is too much.

Let me join in as a pastor.
1st- Never judge a man. You do not know what battles he is fighting because as a pastor, He is battling not just his own but everyone else's as well.
2nd- He can take whatever time He needs to be filled, How can anyone place a time limit on God? He may in fact be chasing rabbits, or he may in fact be onto a spiritual breakthrough that will cause a great awakening in the church.
3rd - Do you pray regularly for your pastor? He is a warrior and is under the spiritual gun daily by many unseen spiritual battles and they take their toil on us. [Believe me]

I study every day and yet there have been many times when I got up to preach that I preached something entirely different than I even studied on, because the Holy Spirit steered me to something that was needed.

I hope this pastor is using this time to pray and be in the essence of God which is to me is even more important than studying, because when a man is bathed in the Spirit, He will speak God's Word clear and in truth and order. [No I am not talking about tongues lol]

You might ask his armor bearer to go with you and speak to him privately and offer to pray over him.

Please pray really hard for this man.
I am sure he would appreciate the fact that you care enough to ask him how he is doing :]

Perhaps God didn't bless them with the ability to crank out sermons at light speed.

You are his faithful servant.

There is behind the scene Labour or behind the scene lazy.

I hope that every pastors just like you.

I am a retired doctor . I know there are good doctors and bad doctors.

If someone tell me there are bad doctors , I will strongly agree with them.

And find the ways to improve .
