• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why so sarcastic??

Why are so many responses to peoples posts so sarcastic?

Hi, I am new here and I really thought this was such a cool web site where I could fellowship with other believers but I have to say, after looking around a bit, I am not so sure anymore. Why are so many responses to peoples posts so sarcastic? There will be people placing posts asking innocent questions and they will get slammed by others calling themselves christians. People get slammed for grammar, spelling, and for asking goofy (but valid) questions. Its really a shame. And very sad.

There are forums on this site that are specifically for Christians to fellowship with other believes, and then there are forums such as this one, where Christians and non-Christians can debate and discuss issues. We get down into the muck of it, and really talk about things on a deeply personal level sometimes. Because we can do that here (and I thank CF for allowing us to) you'll see sarcasm, anger, animosity, and often, compassion. You'll see Christians lose their temper. You'll see non-Christians make accusations. You'll see us rally around a topic, and occasionally come to a final conclusion. Many times we'll just agree not to agree. These forums represent the real world (imo) where Christians are to live among non-believers. We are called to be a witness to them. We are called to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. It's not easy. I'm sure it's not easy for them to care about us either. I can tell you however, that among the posters here, you will find many non-believers who are just as compassionate and caring as believers. Also, among the believers, you may find some who are just as stubborn, rude, and unkind as the non-believers.

As for the sarcasm, many of us will react in that manner to topics that we have seen many ties over. Sarcasm doesn't mean there is no caring. I don't have a problem with occasional sarcasm from others. It does have it's place, and can be used in a playful manner. There are some places where one should not be sarcastic, of course, and if you see that here, then you should speak up in that particular topic.

I hope that you will reach out and jump into the topics here, feeling unashamed and unafraid to state your opinions. I also hope that you will make a home in the Christian sections of this site, because we'll embrace you there, and you WILL find the fellowship that you seek.

I'm afraid you've just described the internet community.. or at least those areas of it in which the general public can make instant contributions, and are encouraged to do so.

My experience has been that sometimes those with Christian symbols are among the worst offenders.

I do think that the fact that we are not dealing with each other on a face-to-face basis has much to to do with the rudeness that we sometimes see here. There are remarks that a person would never say to someone they were addressing in person that they feel comfortable typing into a computer. I guess the courtesy level goes down without the human element.

I noticed the same thing when I first came here. I was shocked to say the least. However, there are times when we get angry because someone is being very rude, and we forget for a moment who we belong to, and who we represent. It has happened to me, and I had to come back and say I was sorry.

The best thing you can do when you see the sarcasm is try to be a peacemaker. I think I have seen a decrease in the amount of sarcasm lately, but maybe I am not getting into the heat of things anymore.

Sarcasm is reserved for those who are being ridiculous--to prove a point. Like say you say rock music is evil. So I come back pointing out all music has elements you would consider evil and so making that point, most likely sounding sarcastic, I annouce that to make it evil you must decide that it is all evil since we have decided through a limited viewpoint rock is evil.
I don't remeber anyhting about being sarcastic in the Bible, I know a person in my signature quote called Steve Taylor who is a Christian and made some of his very best points in his music by being a bit sarcastic. Jesus sounds sarcastic in the Bible at times, but I suppose that is up to how you interpret it.
Yes, I guess pointing out spelling errors is a bit bad and a poor comeback tactic,--I'll have to remember to hit myself next time I do that. (Not meant as sarcastic, I mean I'll have to prevent it, since I did that once).

my sacrasm ( includeing against myself) has everything to do with boredom and the fact that I would rather make my self laugh.
It is never meant to be personal.
I cannot belive people would get offended over sarcasm in forums.
chill out people, your too sensitive and need to realize the best humor comes from the most serious, unfunny, and taboo topics.

Example:
Whats better than winning a Gold Medal in the Special Olmpics?

Answer: Not being retarded.

LOL I can tell this joke because I have a handicapp daughter, so there.

MADCOIL,
Why are you so angry? Must you resort to personal attack?
I am so offended and hurt, how dare you.
I cannot even hardly type because the
tears in my eyes are blocking my vision.
Thanks for destroying a years worth of counceling in a single blow.
WHat have I done to you to deserve this personal attack?
to say I am shocked is an understatement.
I was going to spend the rest of the day picking flowers, but now I feel like laying in bed for another 12 hours listening the The Cure.
I will pray for you.
