Why so much obsession about blasphemy?

Hi all. I have a Christian friend with severe OCD and I'm trying to better understand what she goes through.

Can someone tell me why so many Christians with OCD obsess about blaspheming against the Holy Spirit? Is it because they believe it's the worst possible thing one can do thought wise? On a related note would non-believers obsess about something they deemed as equally important or serious, though obviously not in the blasphemy category due to their unbelief? Thanks.

Simple answer-yes, most likely. OCD usually works by making you feel threatened and obsessive about whatever is most important to you...in a Christian's case, their faith and salvation.

I totally agree with Kay , also i would add that even for a non christian who would wish to be saved OCD anf fear of unpardonable sin can make it very difficult to Believe ..So again as Kay said it is what is most important to you and of course that can be true whichever side of the fence you are on.

Its a form of OCD called "religious Scrupulosity". And basically, in OCD the more you worry about it, the worse you get. Need meds. No use suffering needlessly.
